We were out of town last week so did not visit this site for all the discussions about Bush first reaction to the disaster in Indonesia.
But we did watch the news - mostly NY1 - and when the first attacks on his "generous" offer of 35 mil appeared, my first reaction was: what does he care? He won the elections, he is on his last term, he does not have to leave a good record for Cheney and, besides, everyone knows that "god" is on his side...
Has any of his followers yet claimed that this was "god" punishment of countries that are mostly Muslim? Has Coulter leashed her poison pen about how all Muslims should be converted to Christianity to prevent such a disaster?
And, of course, has this been blamed on the Clintons, yet?

3. Funny you should mention that . . . |
|
On CSPAN last week, an elderly woman came on, of course praising Bush and worshiping him. She then blamed the tsunami on the sex trade in Indonesia. She said God was punishing the people that sell their children into prostitution.
Also, regarding Clinton and the war, a man called on CSPAN (actually I've heard this several times), stating that if Clinton had not slashed the military so badly, that we would already be out of Iraq. So it's not Bush's fault that the military cannot get the job done. First it's Clinton's fault . . . then it's the military's fault for "whining" all the time (needing body armor and armored vehicles is whining?).
Fascists.

6. Clinton cutbacks? they mean Bush 1 cutbacks. |
|
I was in the Army between 1988 and 2002.
Between 1988 and 1992, we cut back from 17 divisions to 10. These were the years of huge base closures and early retirements for thousands of people. Of course, it was the end of the cold war and all the soldiers guarding Germany from a soviet invasion were no longer needed. After 1992 we only cut 1 more.

5. BushCo didn't think the media would make such a big deal |

of all the destruction. He thought he could get away with that first offer of $15 million without much fuss.
Look at what they did for Haiti during the hurricanes and flooding. The destruction in Haiti was much much worse than what happened in Florida but they received very little press and very little aid.
BushCo thought the press would give the same low priority treatment to the situation in the Indian Ocean area.

To be so cheap considering that so much of our commerce has been outsourced to South East Asia. Perhaps they hadn't yet figured out how to make money because of this disaster?
