John Mott? Tom Treece?

Cop Makes Midnight Raid of Teacher's Classroom

Tom Treece gives a course called "Public Issues" at Spaulding High School in Barre, Vermont. Right now, he's embroiled in a public issue himself, after a local police officer entered his classroom under peculiar circumstances on April 9 to take photographs of student artwork.

The uniformed police officer, John Mott, went into the class at 1:30 in the morning. He told the Times Argus, which broke the story on May 5, that "he entered the school through an unlocked maintenance door." The school superintendent, Dorothy Anderson, says he banged on the front door of the school and got the custodian to let him in.

In any event, he convinced the custodian to unlock the door to Treece's classroom, and he took a picture of a student project that showed President Bush with duct tape over his mouth, and the words: "Put your duct tape to good use. Shut your mouth."

Treece told me this project was part of an assignment for a unit he was teaching on Iraq. It had three parts. The first part was to participate in a debate on whether to invade Iraq. The second was to write a paper defending your perspective on the issue. And the third was to make a poster illustrating your point of view. Six of his students put together the offending poster.

Alert issued for potential teddy bear bombs

February 14, 2002 Posted: 4:47 AM EST (0947 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The FBI has issued an alert to 350 law enforcement agencies in the southwest and Salt Lake City for potential Valentine teddy bear bombs after a suspicious transaction at a Wal-Mart last month.

Law enforcement sources said authorities also were on the alert at airports in case the suspected bear-bombs might be carried onto airplanes on Valentine's Day.

The FBI said a clean-shaven male, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, purchased nine Valentine teddy bears, 20 inches tall, and 14 canisters of propane, 9 inches tall, small enough to fit inside the teddy bears. The man also bought 12 packets of BBs -- small, round projectiles usually fired from air guns.

Mohammed? - the man who supposedly ran back and forth time and again across 1/2 of Iraq while bombs burst around him in an effort to save Jessica Lynch?

“Expect lots of media hype soon over the first Jessica Lynch-related book by Iraqi Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief. According to some reports he told U.S. Marines the location of the captured Private Lynch. He and his family were then granted U.S. asylum. Along with the chance for U.S. citizenship, al-Rehaief received $300,000 from Rupert Murdoch's Harper Collins for his new book about the Lynch rescue. He also was given a job at the Livingston Group, a high-powered D.C. lobby firm. His book "Because Each Life Is Precious: Why an Iraqi Man Came to Risk Everything for Pvt. Jessica Lynch" is being promoted by his Livingston Group colleague Lauri Fitz-Pegado. She is infamous for her work at Hill & Knowlton PR in 1990 coaching the Kuwaiti girl called "Nayirah" in her shocking but phony testimony on Congressional hill that she'd seen Iraqi soldiers murdering Kuwaiti babies. That stunt helped propel the U.S. to war against Iraq in 1991. Fitz-Pegado's client was the ruling family of Kuwait and the baby-killing claims were later shown to be false. The new book is well timed since it will precede by a few weeks Jessica Lynch's own book, half-a-million copies of which will hit bookstores on Veterans Day, November 11th.”

'Jessica's Hero' Honored In U.S.

WILMINGTON, Delaware, May 9, 2003

(CBS) An Iraqi lawyer who helped U.S. troops rescue American prisoner of war Jessica Lynch was honored by a state lawyers' group.

The Delaware Bar Association said the award granted Thursday to Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief, 32, reflects the best quality of lawyers — helping defenseless people being treated unfairly.

According to the Washington Post, Rehaief said "Thank you so much," on accepting the award, but said nothing further because of a book contract. He wore a patch over an eye that was injured by shrapnel during one of his clandestine trips to provide information to U.S. troops.

U.S. Denies POW Rescue Staged

NASIRIYAH, Iraq, May 29, 2003

(CBS) The April 1 rescue of prisoner of war Pfc. Jessica Lynch was a huge morale booster for the United States, and a big propaganda victory — that much is certain.

The proof is in the grainy night-vision footage of the raid, and the still picture of Lynch in a rescue helicopter with a folded American flag on her chest.

But whether it was a military operation or a photo opportunity depends on whom is asked.

An Associated Press reporter spoke to more than 20 doctors, nurses and other workers at the Iraqi hospital where Lynch had been held.

Bush Backs New Terrorism TV Series

by Jeffrey Jolson-Colburn
Feb 26, 2004, 4:40 PM PT

In what would be a highly unusual action for a president, George W. Bush is apparently giving the White House seal of approval to a television series, D.H.S.--The Series, a drama about the Department of Home Security being introduced Thursday night to prospective networks at an Industry gathering.

President Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge both "endorse and contribute sound bites to the introductions of the series," according to the show's producers.

Whatever Happened to Conservatives?

By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

I remember when friends would excitedly telephone to report that Rush Limbaugh or G. Gordon Liddy had just read one of my syndicated columns over the air. That was before I became a critic of the US invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration, and the neoconservative ideologues who have seized control of the US government.

America has blundered into a needless and dangerous war, and fully half of the country's population is enthusiastic. Many Christians think that war in the Middle East signals "end times" and that they are about to be wafted up to heaven. Many patriots think that, finally, America is standing up for itself and demonstrating its righteous might. Conservatives are taking out their Vietnam frustrations on Iraqis. Karl Rove is wrapping Bush in the protective cloak of war leader. The military-industrial complex is drooling over the profits of war. And neoconservatives are laying the groundwork for Israeli territorial expansion.

Whatever happened to sanity?

My restaurant, love it or leave it

If you don't love it when diners at a rustic Citrus County restaurant put down their grouper sandwiches to wave the flag and sing patriotic music, you can leave it.

By ABBIE VANSICKLE
Published January 2, 2005

CRYSTAL RIVER - The images of two planes slicing through the World Trade Center towers are familiar to nearly every American by now.

On a recent Friday night at a restaurant in rural Citrus County, people heard and watched them again on a big-screen television. The country music anthem God Bless the U.S.A. blared through speakers. More than a hundred people waved large American flags.

They heard the president's voice as he tried to calm a fearful nation. They cheered, applauded and hooted with joy as a grainy image of Osama bin Laden blew up in front of their eyes. They sang along loudly as LeAnn Rimes sang God Bless America.

What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth?

There's so many things going on in the world

Babies dying

Mothers crying

How much oil is one human life worth?

And what ever happened to peace on earth?

We believe everything that they tell us

They're gonna' kill us

So we gotta' kill them first

But I remember a commandment

“Thou shall not kill”

How much is that soldier's life worth?

And whatever happened to peace on earth?

(Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing

Everything we've been told from our birth

Hell they won't lie to me

Not on my own damn TV

But how much is a liar's word worth?

And whatever happened to peace on earth?

So I guess it's just

Do unto others before they do it to you

Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out

Is this what God wants us to do?

(Repeat Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing

Everything we've been told from our birth

Hell they won't lie to me

Not on my own damn TV

But how much is a liar's word worth?

And whatever happened to peace on earth?

Now you probably won't hear this on your radio

Probably not on your local TV

But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined

You can always hear it from me

How much is one picker's word worth?

And whatever happened to peace on earth?

But don't confuse caring for weakness

You can't put that label on me

The truth is my weapon of mass protection

And I believe truth sets you free

(Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing

Everything we've been told from our birth

Hell they won't lie to me

Not on my own damn TV

But how much is a liar's word worth?

And whatever happened to peace on earth?
