18. idea

Sorry to put this here, but this site won't let me post my own, even though I have responded to many posts.

Please consider canceling your cable service on or around Inauguration day as a protest about the way we hear the news. I rarely watch the news, but the reporting of the Tsunami disaster sent me over the top. Only the US used it as a way to further a political point of view. The US is a world leader in giving, and on and on. It made me sick.

Try this on:

What if LESS THAN one quarter of the people who voted for Kerry cancel their cable television service to protest the news media? Let’s say 250,000 households.

On average, cable costs $2/day. That’s HALF A MILLION DOLLARS PER DAY.

Keep it off a month, that’s 15 MILLION DOLLARS

If you don’t think that will have an economic impact on cable television, you’re wrong.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. KILL YOUR TELEVISION SERVICE. GET TO KNOW YOUR KIDS, GET TO KNOW YOUR PARTNER, GET TO KNOW YOURSELF. READ MORE. GET MORE EXERCISE. LISTEN TO THE RADIO, PLAY MORE MUSIC, RENT A MOVIE IF YOU MUST WATCH TELEVISION.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, SEND THE MONEY YOU SAVE TO DISASTER RELIEF.

IF YOU WANT THIS COUNTRY BACK, YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK.

Welcome to DU Dbsherri :toast:

1. I just moved to a place with no cable.
In-house satellite system only. More interested in DU and Everquest than I ever will be in TV anyway.

3. Great Idea,
We canceled cable in 2001 to protest the press's lack of reporting on the election scam in Florida, and we have been enjoying our freedom from TV news ever since. We read, surf the net and subscribe to Netflix -- cheaper, saner, more informative.

4. I think it's an axcellent idea in every respect :)
Losing money is what hurts them. And there are really better things to do than watch TV... It doesn't even hurt to be without, I promise :) I have not had a TV set for about 15 years.

6. but what about Keith and Jon?
If Countdown and the Daily Show would start their own countercable system, I'd tag along happily.

I've done my time without a tv (12 years), it's not about the mindless addiction thing here, don't make me dump my boys to spend quality time with my husband!

(and uh, Bob, if you followed me to this forum too, you know that's not how I mean it, hugs & kisses, yer luving wife O8))

(p.s. Keith and Jon, he means nothing to me)

8. This type of thing could only motivate them to reach out more
via the internet (though trust me, I feel your pain!)

10. What is this cable you speak of?
I've never had it, neither has the hubster. We're old enough to remember when there were only 3 channels and since 500 channels has no more content than 3, we've never even considered it. What a waste of cash. Well...okay... except for Cartoon Network. But that's still not worth it.

12. Any regrets about doing so?
I know that if I do, I'll miss the art channels and even the news channels (because I like tokeep on top of the propaganda- tels me where to dig lol).

I envy those who can cancel. Really do.

Kudos to you.
