Frist plans to visit region ravaged by earthquake and wave

WASHINGTON Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says he plans to visit the region ravaged by last week's earthquake and tsunami wave.

The Tennessee physician says he wants to assess "the next wave of threats" from diseases arising from poor sanitation and other health problems in the tsunami's aftermath.

Despite a burgeoning federal deficit and the cost of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, he says it's critical for the United States to provide relief aid.

snip...not much more to story

3. the United Nations begged 'high profile' visitors to STAY HOME (link)
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 04:49 PM by diamond14

"high profile" visitors (jeb bush*, colin powell, bill frist, etc.) need LOTS of extra security, and drain resources away from the effort to help the victims....

PLEASE STAY HOME...

perhaps DUers could politically pressure these criminals to STAY HOME...they are NOT helping the victims....they go for photo-ops and that DELIBERATELY hinders the aid operations....

Please, make them stop....

======================================

the Secretary General of the United Nations
http://www.un.org/apps/sg/offthecuff.asp?nid=660

On the question of visits to the region, as I indicated, that is not excluded. But let me also say that we all need to be careful. When you have these sorts of massive emergencies, the urgent need is assistance to the people - shelter, food, water, health and other things. When we sometimes overwhelm them with high-profile visitors, we move people away from their work, and in fact we become more of a problem, an impediment, than actual assistance.

So, one should go to the region, but at the right time. Those who go to the region should make sure that they do not detract from the essential work that is being done, because it takes lots of efforts, and they have limited facilities. In some of these places, you often would not have even accommodation - and all the essential accommodation should go to those who actually doing it. So, yes, visit the region, but at the right time.

Even though the United Nations have ASKED that they should please stay at home. They are all great ambassadors of your country.

13. Nauseating! Whine and moan about foreign aid, ignore the problem . . .
And then, when things are looking really, really shitty and the rest of the planet thinks you're one of America's Legion of Assholes, tie on the surgical gown and go and grandstand for your next campaign commercial.

Fucking disgusting.

What happened to the social security crisis? Isn't acting on chimps' legislative agenda important for the safety and security of this country? You need to stay home and do the job we're payin' ya for, fuck-stick.
