What can anybody tell me about NEXRAD(Next Generation Radar)? |
There is a NEXRAD station near where I live, it looks like a giant golf ball. I have heard that the radiation? put out by these things is dangerous and may be carcinogenic. The reason why I am asking is because there is a kids camp about 500 yards away from this thing.

2. I call bullshit on part of that document |
Specifically, the part where they claim the NEXRAD only transmits for six seconds of every hour and listens all the rest of the time. There is no way a radar of this sort could work if it only transmitted for six seconds of every hour--radars work by sending out a burst of radio energy and processing the energy that bounces off the target. Yeah, if you're trying to kill someone with a radar-guided weapon you'll turn your radar on for a very short period of time, but weather radar, like civil air traffic control radar, transmits all the time.
