Good job DUers! House ethics rules to be reinstated, to stay in place!
lol - til thy change their minds again, at least....:

"WASHINGTON - House Republicans suddenly reversed course Monday, deciding to retain a tough standard for lawmaker discipline and reinstate a rule that would force Majority Leader Tom DeLay to step aside if indicted by a Texas grand jury.
...
Rep. J. D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., agreed there was pressure on Republicans not to change conduct rules. "Constituents reacted and the House and, more importantly, the House leadership, responded accordingly," Hayworth said. "

6. What great news!
And I am quite sure DeLay didn't magnanimously offer to reinstate the rule.

18. No way, it is a mark of leadership that the GOP keeps the rules.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=1&u=/ap/20050104/ap_on_go_co/house_ethics

"It's a mark of a leader to take a bullet for the team and not for the team to take a bullet for the leader. I'm very glad we decided to stick with the rules."

What do you bet that Delay will not be indicted by a Texas grand jury after all. If one could know this information before hand, then come out in support of the original rules, he would look like a brave GOP leader. But who would ever see such machinations in the GOP politic machine.

19. Whoa! This might be part of the explanation....
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/editorial/2974788

"Meanwhile, closer to home, Republican lawmakers in Austin are honing proposed bills to remove authority for prosecuting campaign violations from local district attorneys and vest it with the Texas attorney general. That would stop Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle from prosecuting indicted DeLay associates and put the ball in Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott's court. Another proposal would legalize the corporate contributions that are the focus of Earle's investigation."

Line of thought might be: who gives a fuck about what's happening in DC, as long as they can get shit legislated away in Texas...
