That's where our tax dollars come in to it!

9. It is a tank tread.
You can see it in the er..."meat" further down on the picture.

I'm also wondering where his arms are. They HAVE to be tied behind him because if it was bad enough to take OFF his arms, his head wouldn't be there at all. And there would be um, the kind of stuff you see near his head where his arms should be, so yeah, I think it's fair to conclude his arms are tied behind his back.

Good God.

10. I've heard about this practice--I think the Nazis used to
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 01:05 AM by MindPilot
drive tanks over the bodies to make identification difficult or impossible. It was supposed to have a psychological debilitating effect on the enemy population.

On edit: It appears as if the Americans have elevated it to a form of execution.

18. Where is this picture from?
Do you have the facts behind the picture? Is there any other information that goes along with this horrible picture? Are you just 'assuming' that this is a victim of our US military or are you hoping it is? Too many people on this forum are far to eager to demonize and criminalize our troops and unless you can back this up with some facts, you are simply adding to the hate-the-troops propaganda machine that is it at work here!

22. I've read terrible things that people on this forum
have been saying about our troops, and don't say that they haven't. If it's easier to shut off those who speak out, then I guess there is nothing I can do. And I wasn't here to play, I was here to look, listen and learn - but I guess speaking out is not allowed.

23. Speak out all you want
Just remember, when you speak out, instead of 'looking, listening and learning', your own words can come back and bite you.

Like these:
>>"Too many people on this forum are far to eager to demonize and criminalize our troops"<<

I have not seen anyone on this site trying to demonize our troops. I suppose its possible and I just missed it. Not likely, but possible.

What I have seen, however, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, is a large number of people who are quite able to separate the troops from the incompetent asswipe who sent them over there to begin with.

Perhaps you aren't able to separate the people who hate this war from the people who YOU say are trying to demonize our troops.

25. I have been prominent among those "demonizing our troops..."
...and it's evident that you still don't get it. Here's a comment I posted in another thread, where the RW "hate our troops" talking point made another appearance:

I have been among the most vocal DU critics of the "troops," but have always made it clear that what I hate is their actions in Iraq, not any of them as individuals. There is a real difference between advocating that war criminals be held responsible for their crimes and "hating the troops." Failure to make that distinction is the heart of fascist nationalism and militarism. "Our troops" are not above the law.

The U.S. military is a group of honorable institutions working for dishonorable purposes in Iraq. That war is a crime of aggression, and like all crimes, it's participants are criminals by definition, or at least accomplices. That's not "hating the troops"-- it's standing up for the principles that they are supposed to serve. I think that's more important than being a good German, if you take my meaning.

I applaud the relief work being done by our military in South Asia. However, that doesn't make up for one iota of the criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq. I don't think many DUers-- if any-- "hate the troops." Many of us do hate what they're doing, and hope that they are ultimately held responsible for it. Our national honor is better served by the truth, IMO, than by whitewashing the crimes of our military in Iraq in the name of nationalistic jingoism. Our troops are committing despicable crimes in Iraq-- that truth needs to be recognized and understood if we are to avoid becoming international despots whose self-interest and brutality is feared more than their good will is respected.
