What's the latest tsunami death toll???
I'm asking because I've been on vacation for the past week, and I haven't been able to catch the latest developments on the TV or the internet. I wasn't able to find it on cnn.com this morning either.

Anyone know?? Thanks.

1. Last I heard is was over 150K
Haven't heard anything recently though. It's like no one wants to give a definate number.

4. Sorry - like I said, it's like no one wants to get specific.
I saw 150,000 last night. This morning, I heard, "...well over 150K" on the radio.

3. I heard 140,000 at lunch on MSNBC
that being said, thousands are still missing and presumed dead.

6. Right, and sites that have "missing" totals, like the BBC
are showing ten times as many missing as dead, on average, at least from the tourist areas where records were kept.

We'll never know the true toll. Too many were swept out to sea and their bodies disposed of by scavengers.

I know a lot of people in the area are now off shellfish and large ocean fish for that reason (understandable), and that it'll cause extreme hardship among the fishermen still left.

5. There was a report two days ago that the total could be as...
high as 400,000, but I think they have backed off that number.
The latest wire service story I saw:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=afBMeiS458TA&refer=top_world_news

says only that:... "The death toll from the Dec. 26 tsunami disaster may rise ``well above'' the estimated 150,000 people killed"

I haven't read anything more specific.
