crazy tsunami pictures
these pics are unbelievable. Its a crowd of people gathered to watch the first wave break and they obviously have no idea how dangerous it is.

Scroll down a bit for a pic of people running away from a twenty foot wave right at their heels.

ps
I think a lot of people are looking at this link so I apologize in advance if it takes a bit of time to load!

1. Why are some of those people smiling?
You'd think they were at a Water Park or something. Even if they were tourists, common sense would dictate a huge wave coming that close to shore is deadly.

Very horrifying.

2. at least some are fakes
Look at the pic toward the bottom where the huge wave is about to engulf the people. Why are they all smiling? This one was photoshopped

3. the truly sad part is
that so many of the people are smiling as they run, as if they're just trying to keep from getting wet. It really looks as though they have no concept of the destructive force descending on them. :(

4. The pictures are probably fake.

They have been posted before.

Key question: if these were all taken by one person, how did he achieve so many angles? And wouldn't he be running?

6. does EVERYTHING have to be a conspiracy around here?
I doubt that they are faked.

My guess is that they are smiling because they simply have no idea how dangerous that wave is...

8. There's no conspiracy
This is just a rogue email that got out of hand, or someone trying to boost site traffic or something.

10. I know what you mean.
I don't think they are faked. I've seen other pics of people watching the waves come in and taking pictures right up until it smashes into them.

Maybe it is just shock, or hysteria? Or maybe some people are just dumber than doornails.

12. They ARE faked.
They're from a completely different event:

17. Um, they ARE NOT FAKED.
They are from a river in China I see now, but they are not photoshopped. It appears it is a naturally occuring event that people go to watch, just like people go to the beaches to watch a hurricane come in. But it looks as though it was worse than they expected.

There is a difference between intentionally faking and misinformed.

19. They are faked. Misinformation is faking in this respect.
You are not faking the image, but you are faking the information it is presented with. That is fakery. If I posted a (unchanged) photo of Brad Pitt and said it was a pic of me, it would be a fake photo of me. You don't have to change the image for it to be a fake.

21. How do you know the site is deliberately faking?
He seems like he honestly is trying to help...has a link to donate. Why do you assume the person is devious, instead of just gullible?

24. I didn't say the site host was the faker.
He might be, he might not be. If it is an honest error on his part, the pictures are still fake, but someone else faked them.

He deserves a little credit for drawing attention to donation techniques, but using faked pictures is counterproductive. This site has been circulating for days and has been debunked - he must be aware of that by now, so why is it still up?

25. Yes, he even admits he is getting lots of email and refers to
one person saying it is the China incident. He should research this himself and update the pics to reflect the correct country and event. However, his other link is to the most graphic horrific picture from last week's tsunami I've seen...what appears to be hundreds of dead bodies washed up in the rubble.

15. I was going to say it looked like some kind of unusually large...
...tidal bore (an actual 'tidal wave' coming upriver) in China (from the buildings).

If Snopes is right, then I was at least in the right ballpark.

18. isn't even a disaster
this tidal wave (not tsunami) happens regularly, the only unknown factor is exactly how big it will be.
looks to me like the worst that happened to the people in the pictures is that they got wet.

9. My guess is that
these are not from "THE" tsunami but from some other event. I remember seeing, on The Discovery channel, some place where the tide comes in once a year at a very high rate of speed and people gather to watch. Every year people get swept away because they get too close.

I forget the location but that would explain the umbrellas and smiling faces (if the photos aren't fakes).

Animal senses a change in its environment it doesn't stick around to marvel at it.

23. Looks fake, but I think it might be real.
The sixth, seventh, and last pictures, showing the people standing on a blue pickup - particularly the last picture showing fewer people, and the seventh showing people fleeing... why would they all be running away like that? Sure, it could be done in photoshop; but it also might be real.
