Why do freepers hate the UN? |
|
They seem to have a viscous hatred of the United Nations, on general principle.
Does anyone care to guess why this is so?
It was exacerbated by the lead-up to the Iraq war, but it was there before that; it was even there before Bush.
Other than right-wing nut jobs who were paranoid about the One World Government, the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, etc., why would non-nut job right-wingers fear and hate the United Nations?

3. I don't know much about religion... |

but aren't a bunch of them eagerly anticipating the rapture? And doesn't it say something about one world government being in place before this happens?

They don't give a damn about the environment and will have it destroyed before all the pieces are in place. What happens if we all die before rapture? lol

15. That was exactly the seeds of their paranoia about |
|
the UN. However, they fail to realize that in their zeal to destroy the UN, they are actually substituting the power of an American Empire for the possibility of one world government under the UN. Crazy, huh?

5. Racism, Paranoia, and the UN not playing yes-man to the U.S. |
|
Racism - Our white, christian nation should never have to get the approval of darkies, towel heads, and heathens
Paranoia - The black helicopters are on their way!
Not playing yes-man - The U.S. is the richest nation in the world, the UN just needs to sit down, shut up, and do whatever we say. It's the golden rule: we have the gold, so we make the rules.

8. They think it is a step towards world government. |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 03:02 PM by tasteblind
A world government would take precedence over U.S. policies, and we couldn't have that, now could we?
Whether or not an international federalism is a bad idea is a huge can of worms, but most people eye the concept with a healthy degree of skepticism and promise. Everyone says the UN has no teeth, and we refuse, time and time again, to give it teeth by joining the ICC or playing ball on various accords.
Republicans think the concept is inherently evil.
I'm sure there are other people out there infinitely better qualified to take this on, though. I invite those of you out there to do so.
Edit to note: Clinton's legacy may well turn out to be that he pushed the US and the world away from a nation-state paradigm and towards a more global perspective.

11. The UN refused to let themselves be bullied into an unnecessary war |
|
They said NO to ignorance and arrogance...they looked at the facts...and didn't do what Bush told them to.
They hate anyone who opposes that ignorant and incompetent moron they call President. And they hate anyone who is smarter then them. That is the reason they hate us, too.

the product of a well oiled propaganda machine. Hatched in the bowels of a well funded Right Wing Think Tank and disseminated through the thousands of Fascist media outlets, over the years it poisons the minds of the weak, gullible and stupid.

And they have to hate France. Why that is, I don't know. But I did see this on a billboard outside of Chatanooga: "14,500 Americans died at Normandy. Think about that and boycott France"

22. The roots BEFORE the RW came to power |
|
were laid probably by corporate interests and people hating the Cold War division of the UN. In any event the newest hate, before it became a dog to kick, was the fear that the liberals planned some UN of the World to take over all our sovereignty etc. Fear hatred and intrusion into their me-centric universe, but the opposition to the UN was probably the same as to the League of Nations. Convenient popular isolationism mixed in with not wanting some global overseer to police(or even expose) rotten national adventures and business interest abroad, raising up rivals rather than colonial markets.
How they rope in the goofballs is with isolationist and brave new World fears yet the fear leads them to those same dangers and much worse in the hands of corporate globalists.
