I'm designing a poster to encourage activism
I do greeting cards now, and would like to get out of that and try political and activism posters. What attracts you to a certain poster? Is it the cause, the colors, the words? Is color or black and white more powerful for you? I'm considering ala 60's kinda psychedelic type....

1. Stay away from the hippie stuff and the whole Che thing is pretty tired...
Red letters on black and white.

Personalize it, not to yourself, but a caption that makes a person feel as if the message is directed at them.

Short and sweet.

Direct people to where they need to go to and make it simple.

Don't use a picture that makes people look away. (The PETA people will never learn that nobody will read their message with a picture of road kill on their posters)

Big clear letters

Use "meet other interesting people" as a way to gather them.

Make your message clear, broad, but with a specific agenda.

Good Luck!!

2. Something short, memorable, and perhaps dramatic.
I'm not very creative, so that's all the advice I can give... it's just about all that catches my attention anymore in this busy world.

3. First you need to consider what it is that will drive people to be active
If a person has more to lose than to gain they are not as likely to rise up. Its the gilded cage problem. Most are trapped by the current quality of life. They run the risk of losing jobs, careers, social position, and other things if they take risks.

4. Thanks
the black and white with red lettering is grabbing, I've noticed this myself...and I've been thinking about what is the very thing we all stand to loose and came to the conclusion of Freedom...but that is a bit trite, overused so I'm trying to think of a way to make it more personal, an actual lose, something more tangiable....I'm also very geared to gay rights, since my daughter is gay and I want her to have a good life...
