A question. Please Read.

I was talking to someone on the phone about politics. We talk about how disgusted we are with celebrities that support Republicans, regardless of what we think of their work, because they are doing it to maintain a standard of living that they have no danger of losing. So we got into a discussion about why is it any better for celebrities to come out and support Democrats? What do you think? How can we be so disgusted with Republican Celebrities and not with Democrats for bringing themselves out?

1. Because we don't like republicans?
I am not disgusted with republican celebs coming out. I am digusted with republicans. I support anyone supporting something they believe in. Limiting them would be limiting me.

2. for me the answer would be along the lines of, given the enormous talent
they have to be creative ... can't they see the absolute 'don't care about my fellow human being' attitude expressed by republican policies and politicians? how that can be is beyond my comprehension because it takes 'soul' to have so much creativity, portray so many characters, get into so many human situations ... and then in real life lend support to so much that denies so many of the human qualities or circumstances that make up most people's lives.

3. I am sure part of it is disappointment that people who usually came
from poverty and attained great wealth and power should side with the haves and not the have nots. Its like they draw a veil over their past and forget what it meant to be powerless and hungry. I respect people, who given what they achieve, don't forget where they come from and try and do their best for the disaffected among us.

That is why they deserve to be mocked and laughed at and that is why the dem celebs get my respect. Sarah Bullock and that racing driver did more for peace by giving 11m dollars between them than the dumb fuck repug
celebs that shelled out 100K to dance with bush at his soire.

4. it is incredible how many of the background of republicans in power today
is one of poverty and have nots situations. instead of learning from whatever the pain, they learned to hate the pain and the rest of us must pay for it.

5. Well, I take issue...
... with your suggestion that celebrities who support Republicans and/or Bush are creative. Most are hacks, has-beens and whores. Bruce Willis? Two short steps up from Sylvester Stallone. Charlton Heston? Give me a break--the only good performance he ever made was in Will Penny. Toby Keith? Give me a fuckin' break.

Marie Osmond, Wayne Newton, Heather Locklear, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Pat Boone, Bo Derek? I rest my case.

6. It all comes out in the wash, and doesn't really mean much
in the big scheme of things, IMO.

7. Maybe because of their motives?
Also how they 'come out'. My favorite celebrity, Sam Waterston, chose to protest the RNC by taking part in the reading of the Constitution at Cooper Union. He walks his talk when it comes to being a truly compassionate liberal--he's been on the Board of Directors of Refugees International for 18 years, performs gratus as host of the PBS series "The Visionaries", does PSAs for symphonies, even goes to a high school to do readings of student's work to raise funds for their arts programs! The number of causes he supports both monetarily and by donating his services goes on and on.

So when Sam supports Democrats for office, I listen, and it doesn't bother me, because I know where he's coming from-he's a person concerned about others more than his own self-interest.

8. I don't dislike GOP celebrities because they are GOP
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 07:00 AM by mandyky
I never like Arnold's movies, even before I knew what party he supported.
I still like Bruce Willis movies (some of them) even though he is GOP.

I don't like obnoxious phony celebrities, whatever party they belong to. Like that Silver guy, from West Wing, they introduced him as a GOP activist. What the hell causes do GOP activists activate about - putting 10 commandments in courthouses...?

LOL On edit - imagine that last statement in the same tone Old Zell Miller used when he gave his spitball convention speech!!!
