FOX Calls FCC Indecency Rules 'Obsolete'
"LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Given the choice, FOX would rather not pay the $1.2 million in fines proposed by the FCC.

In a filing to the commission, FOX promised to fight the fines, which stem from an episode of the underwatched reality entry "Married by America," because of the unconstitutional and obsolete indency rules of the regulatory body." ...........

"The April 7, 2003 episode of "Married by America" focused on the bachelor parties that preceded a televised wedding that never occured. The bachelor party included topless female dancers, a female contestant licking whipped cream from the chest of a male stripper and several other examples of debauchery."

A month old but still news to me, does anyone know if Fox paid up?

2. Oh what an uncomfortable position to be in....
siding with Fox in this one specific case (and having to ignore their hypocrisy).

3. Wasn't O'Reilly suggesting torches and pitchforks over Nipplegate?
Janet Jackson shows a nipple for a fraction of a second, O'Reilly is all over it like a loofah.

Fox goes over the top with one of their stupid, derivative shows, and suddenly the decency laws are "obsolete."

Bill, Shut up! Just shut up!

Someone kill his mic.

7. I don't agree with the new enforcement of the obscenity laws...
so I have to be consistent.

Oh...and O'Reilly was wrong. Imagine that?!

5. Some of the rules ARE obsolete.
The seven naughty words:

s**t

p**s

f**k

c**t

c**ksucker

motherf***er

tits

And I've often heard them censor more innocuous words, most notably "goddamn", which is of course obvious pandering to Christians who are offended by it, a clear violation of church/state separation, IMO.

I see nothing wrong with the word goddamn, but would prefer that the other words not be used on broadcast TV except late at night, and even then, not gratuitously. We have pay channels for that sort of thing for those who want it. Broadcast TV is the public commons, and as such, it would be inappropriate to have a lot of profanity.

I'm a bit more concerned that the V-Chip does NOTHING to block offensive commercials, like the "Girls Gone Wild". They are mini porn films (and not even good porn) and the little starbursts they place over the writhing womens' genitalia and breasts does NOT make them suitable viewing for kids.

9. that's the "old" list
After the FCC initially ruled that Bono's use of the f-word on tv was not "indecent", several of our intrepid legislative protectors introduced legislation to codify the seven dirty words. Only it turns out the list changed somewhat. The proposed legislation dropped "tits" from the list, but added "asshole." I suspect its because the repugs behind this bill were more concerned about being called assholes than having their tits talked about....

By the way, the proposed bill also specified that it applied not only to the identified words, but also to the "compound use (including hyphenated compounds) of such words and phrases with each other or with other words or phrases, and other grammatical forms of such words and phrases (including verb, adjective, gerund, participle, and infinitive forms)."

No I'm not making this up. http://www.amon-hen.com/archives/000040.html

11. Funny thing is, half-bleeped words that leave no doubt what you are saying
are totally okay. So f**k, SH*T, etc. are heard all the time.

Whatever.

8. Indecency rules?
The Faux ... oops, I mean "FOX" network has nothing to fear.

But if the FCC ever starts levying fines for violating taste rules, Rupert Murdock will be pimping Bill O'Reilly on the nearest street corner to come up with enough cash.

(And the image of Billy "Wanna Have Phone Sex with Me?" O'Reilly parading up and down the sidewalk in hot pants and a feather boa asking passersby "Psssst ... want me to make like a Hoover on your wing-wang" is as disturbing as it is funny.)
