Grassroots! Alive and Kickin! |
|
Yesterday I attended a Democratic rally in Middle Tennessee. It is an annual rally in its fifth year held on a beautiful farm just outside of Nashville. It was quite an experience with approximately 1,000 people in attendance. Speakers included Bob Clement (former Congressman), Congressman Bart Gordon, Congressman John Tanner, Congressman Harold Ford, and our newly elected DEMOCRATIC Governor Phil Bredesen. They were all quite inspirational and trounced the Bush administration. They encouraged each and every one of us to take our enthusiasm with us every day right through election 2004. The crowd was fired up!!!!!!!
Some of the Democratic presidential candidates had display tables. Kerry, Gephardt, Kucinich, Dean, Draft Clark, and Draft Gore were there. A straw poll was held with Dean in first and Gephardt in second (not surprising since it was a union event). The problem with the straw poll was that they would not allow unannounced candidates on the ballot (Gore or Clark) and they would not allow write-ins.
I was there as a representative of Draft Gore. Based on the enthusiam of folks who chatted with us, donated to our cause, purchased our stickers, ink pens, and buttons, and signed our petition, we firmly believe Al is still well loved in Tennessee and would have easily won the straw poll had they allowed him on the ballot. Representatives of Draft Gore from three states were in attendance.
Tomorrow evening Dumbya is attending a fundraiser in Nashville and a large contingent of protestors is expected. The speakers at the event yesterday requested that all in attendance go protest Bush and I believe many will!
Grassroots in the Democratic Party is alive and well! Folks, if you aren't involved, please get involved. You will be surprised at how fulfilling it will be. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

2. I think it's quite surprising |
|
that Dean won by over a hundred votes considering that it was a Union event.

and had many people working the event. The Gephardt table did not get much attention, but his son was there.
