Arab/Muslim Propaganda - We Caused the Tsunami
If any thing could bring home to me the different planets we in the United States and those in the Arab/Muslim world live on it would be the report I saw on last nights NBC Evening News with Brain Williams.

The report showed how media in the Arab/Muslim world is publishing/broadcasting as fact that the United States/India and Israel are all responsible for the disaster in SE Asia.

Spare me this is the same type of tripe that the Stalinist Soviets would spout, that all good is from them, and all evil is from the west.

Tell me how are we ever going to find common ground with this kind of an attitude?

I know being in Iraq is a mistake of epic proportions but somehow we have to come to grips with the anti-west attitude of the Arab/Muslims, I hope we are not destined to fight them, but with reports like this I sometimes wonder.:puke:

2. We've got tinfoil hats right here saying the same thing
Same planet.

Same kinds of idiots.

Maybe those misguided Americans who actually believe this should write to the misguided Arabs and apologize?

3. Yah, that's pretty nuts. You know what's really crazy?
Some Americans thought that Saddam had WMDs and was ready to use them.

8. I've heard that some Americans also thought...
...that Saddam was behind 9/11.

Crazy, man. Crazy.

11. I heard that this morning on NBC
really early in the morning so I was half asleep but it made me say, "whoa, some DU'ers were getting jabs for saying something similar but now here it is on the news." Just goes to show how ahead of the curve we really are here. So take that FOX and shove it up your white-packed nose!

15. More than true enough,
and people always need a scapegoat for disasters so that they can try and make sense out of a senseless event. For our wack jobs, it's Muslims and God is sending a message to them to repent their "evil" religion. For their wack jobs, it's the same old bugaboo, the West, particularly the USA.

18. Oh, come ON, you simply cannot
pretend that that isn't the case. There's more than enough evidence of Muslims stereotyping Americans, just like we stereotype them. It is simply not the case that they're all good and pure and holy and never, ever talk bad about us and we're always the big, bad, evil ones who never do anything right. We both denigrate and stereotype each other, frankly.

6. There are billions of Muslims in this world.
How can you suggest that 'Muslims' spread this kind of propaganda?

A similar comment would be 'All Christians and Jews hate Muslims and they will nuke Mecca someday', if you would take FreeRepublic as a stereotype. So, I just might be wondering how on earth Muslims may find a common ground with that kind of attitude of 'Americans/Christians'.

Please be careful about generalizing.

Funny how somebody trusts a "news" story from an source known for spreading anti-muslim propaganda about how awful those crazy muslims are.

7. So, you believe at all Arab/Muslims are the same because of one report?
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 03:13 PM by Bridget Burke
It's just like damning DU because of a few geology-impaired postings--& a few from disruptors.

Could the US have caused the quake & tsunami? Extremely doubtful.

Would certain forces in our government have done so if they could have? Not quite so doubtful; they've certainly rushed to take advantage of the disaster.

(By the way--not all Arabs are Muslims. And many Muslims are not Arabs.)

9. For starters
we should stop bombing the crap out of their country and cease our occupation. People don't really listen to those that are killing them. Do you think we would have listened to the Russians if they invaded the US?

10. I agree, that's just
way too much. Unfortunately, this appears to be a common occurrence. These are, for the most part, totalitarian societies, though, and that's what totalitarian societies do, they brainwash their citizens into believing that they are always good and pure and holy and the enemy is always bad and evil and everything is their fault. I do think our being in Iraq, however, has given them a very powerful tool to use against us and that's our own fault for being there in the first place when Iraq had no responsiblity for 9/11, and we have to face that and deal with it.

OTOH, I wonder how THEY feel when they hear the likes of Falwell, Robertson, and our other good, kind-hearted, loving Christians, rant that since most of the victims were Muslim (never mind the Americans, Europeans, and thousands of other non-Muslims who died), God was sending a message, that Islam is evil and the Muslims deserved their suffering, etc., etc. I wonder how THEY feel when they see that there are actually church congregations thanking God for the tsunamis and the death and destruction they caused, and actually praying for more. That is just as disgusting, frankly.

17. They took it from Republican playbook. "Dems will take your guns away."
"Democrats will ban the Bible."

"Democrats will hand over the US to Bin Laden...or France...or Europe....or illegal aliens...or Martians....whatever their chosen target for the day."

The gullible will always believe whatever propaganda the powerful direct to them.

The muslim world is so colossallly large and racially and culturally diverse it makes the US look like Iceland. Generalisations like this are useless.

23. I think that we should not have gone into Iraq
and that our support for despotic non democratic regimes in the Muslim world is not the correct approach.

I think that a President Kerry would have had a better way to deal with this.

But a sizable portion of the Islamic population seems to wish us ill up to and including the point of flying airplanes into buildings for the express purpose of causing as much death and destruction as possible.

There can never be any justification for that kind of action.

I think the propaganda and hate that emanates from certain portions of the media in the Islamic world should be called for what it is not defended.

We can always look at ourselves and find faults, and what Franklin Graham or Jerry Falwell stated maybe over board. But to say that the Jews drink the block of Arabs on Easter goes much farther and is beyond comprehension or defense.

To the extent that the a section of the Arab/Muslim world deems it proper to approach the world in the manner I noted in my original post to that extent they may in fact be a threat to us. At the very least their approach should not be ignored or sloughed off.

"But a sizable portion of the Islamic population seems to wish us ill up to and including the point of flying airplanes into buildings for the express purpose of causing as much death and destruction as possible"

I'd rather live in a country filled with a billion muslims than in America filled with bigots like this.

27. Pardon me Sir or Madam
but where do you deign bigotry in my post, is it not a fact that the men who flew the planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and would have flown another plane into another target if possible were not Arab/Islamic.

Did not Ben Laden state in his tape and on other tapes that one of his goals is a large body count?

Note that I stated that a "Sizable portion" not all Islamic peoples were indicted in my statement. I would also note the abysmal way that woman are treated in Islamic lands, certainly does not indicate a way of life that I would find positive.

Islam may be a religion of peace (although I have my doubts) but their actions speak louder than their words.

I resent being referred to as a bigot since you have scant proof to make that charge.

I lastly point out that this kind of propaganda as practiced in Arab/Islamic lands usually leads to conflict, not withstanding our indefensible incursion into Iraq.
