Justifying high wages, (tsunami style)
I just gave the most money I have ever donated in one lump sum to the Red Cross. I felt pretty good about the amount, however it will take me several months to get my credit card account caught up.

It occurred to me that the upper class has a huge advantage. They can donate 10's of thousands of dollars without any pain. They never need to borrow to donate.

I think that all of us should be paid enough to give freely. Its awful that people below the poverty line might give a very limited amount. Any giving by anyone who exists on a check to check basis has to be tough.

I think that management should start paying their workers enough money to allow them to make choices about donating. The low paying jobs not only make it tough to live, but they allow management to control which "causes" get good support.

I think this is a good reason to demand more money from your bosses. You should have enough left over to donate to some of your charities.

1. First they'd have to pay them enough
to afford the normal bills...like housing, food and health care. Don't worry about enough to donate until you aren't one of those who could use a hand yourself.

3. I guess that this is my point. Why should only the rich get to choose
their charities?

2. Poor people can't even take a tax deduction
If they don't own their home, likely they don't itemize deductions. So they pay 100% of their donation, rather than 65-70%.

4. Wouldn't it help our economy to raise the minimum wage, so these
people could pay taxes? Wouldn't more people donate?

On the other hand, maybe they don't want the responsibility that comes with filing tax forms. (a Rush L. thought)
