The Rights infatuation with British Royalty |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 08:00 PM by devilgrrl
Has anyone else ever noticed that? I was recently thinking about this. I remember back in the '80's the non-stop news stories about the Royals, the wedding between Charles & Diana, then Andrew & Sarah Ferguson. The pomp & circumstance surrounding Wimbledon, it's strawberry's & cream and whatever Duchess or Duke that would show up to hand out trophies. In the mid-80's the media labeled the Schwarzenegger/Shriver marriage "America's Royal Wedding" - as if we would "buy it." Then Robert Novak excoriating Diana Spencer's brother for ripping into the Queen during his eulogy. It's become obvious - to me anyway - that these assholes wished that we had a Monarchy that resembles Victorian England.
I'm having a difficult time putting this into words but hopefully you get what I'm trying to explain.

I would also include most of their citizenry as well, especially the Welsh and Scots. Sorry, I think the Royal family and their ilk are some of the most repugnant people on earth.

3. Jesse Helms talked about how much he loved British royalty |

I think that a lot of old-time conservatives, especially the really hateful rightwingers, long for the days when "people knew their place."
They like to fantasize about how they would be the wealthy and powerful and have lots of servants fetching and carrying for them. It's the same attitude among those who complain that nobody wants to be a maid or a servant anymore (until illegal immigrants filled that niche).

the end times and being ruled by the King of Kings. It seems that the Rethugs also would like to have a Monarchy instead of a Democratic Republic. We now have a Fascist Govt. ruled by Oligarchs.

I know a lot of people fascinated by Princess Di and the royal family, none of them repubs.Dont forget the term Camelot was also used for Jackie and JFK.
I think a lot of Americans would be perfectly happy in a monarchy :scared:
