Crossfire cancelled!!!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050105/ap_en_tv/tv_carlson_crossfire

"I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp," Klein (chief exec of CNN) told The Associated Press.

He said all of the cable networks, including CNN, have overdosed on programming devoted to arguing over issues. Klein said he wants more substantive programming that is still compelling.

"I doubt that when the president sits down with his advisers they scream at him to bring him up to date on all of the issues," he said. "I don't know why we don't treat the audience with the same respect."

So let's not give the DEMS or left-wing supporters any say now.

edit: I know the right-wing has a few voices on that show but imo it hurts the DEMS more

15. Wasn't giving Crossfire all that much credit
My point is, I didn't make that clear, is that Shrub and Co are in power (sadly) so media shows do they're best to kiss the righ-wing's ass-

With Crossfire, the left-wing got a chance to express their voice
and now that it's cancelled there's one less outlet for our voices to be heard.

Does that make sense?

Even at 60 minutes is was a screaming match run by producers who didn't have the guts to cut someone's microphone when a person kept talking over another person trying to make a point.

We must not forget that alot of these people arent conspiring against us. Alot of them just believe myths with no malice.

Recent trends have shown that there is a significant liberal democraphic that can be marketed to.

Lets see what they do next before judging them on removing a horrible show that only pretended to be fair to democrats.

I see your point.

I don't really think that it pretended to be fair to dems or that it was all that horrible of a show, I enjoyed watching it at times.

I was just trying to say, they took away a show that gave some of us left-wingers a voice. I hope they do improve their programming and I will nbow wait to judge them after I see what they're up to.

14. Good news - I think
If they do replace it with a show that is more respectful of the intelligence of the audience it will be a very good thing. I'm not going to hold my breath though, for the last few years it's been all about who can outFox Fox.

I have to believe that Jon Stewart's appearance and all the mail they must have received afterward backing him up had a lot to do with it. Maybe also the impending indictment of Mr. Nofacts :)

17. Question from someone who's only seen one ep of Crossfire...
I said in another post re: Crossfire that the only ep I'd seen was the John Stewart appearance (and that was merely a streaming video link supplied by JS fans at DU).

My question: Is the cancellation simply a tweaking of the marketplace and demographic numbers of the show or did Stewart really shake up the set enough and act as a catalyst for the cancellation?

37. That's along the lines I've been thinking
That's along the lines I've been thinking. The vast majority of my friends are apolitical, but the buzz about JS's appearance on that one particular ep had even them talking about it- and when my portfolio-oriented, gucci-branded, gel-haired friends talk about *anything* political, my jaw dropps and I begin to wonder...

Again, I tend to stay away from talk-show (whether radio or TV) and only see the fallout, rarely the eruption...

20. Besides, the art of debate is now an exercise in futility.
If you put it kindly and think of Crossfire as a show featuring political debate, what good does it do, anyway?
Republican president, republican house and senate, republican supreme court (at least leaning that way) - what is there to debate?
After subjecting myself to Meet the Press last weekend, I have concluded that MSM does not care whether half of America (OUR half, that is) tunes in.
(Of course there is PLENTY to debate - my point is that MSM is lockstepping w/ repukes.)

21. "Out of respect for him and his talent," we told Carlson to go!

"Out of respect for him and his talent, we thought it would be best to let him explore opportunities elsewhere." - Jonathan Klein, CNN executive.

Every channel should follow that philosophy:
Tell Carlson to go somewhere else, "out of respect for him and his talent."

Unfortunately, it looks like Tucker Carlson will be on MSNBC:

"We think Tucker is a great journalist and we're exploring our options for a new 9 p.m. show," said MSNBC's Jeremy Gaines.

They change. Everyone, quit watching corporate news, it's that simple. Write them and tell them you want better programming and not the hate filled, flag waving jingoism that's been filling the airwaves for the past few years. And watch their ratings go down the toilet. You better believe they will change then.

Looking back though now, I see they were trying to get rid of Bill Press, who is fairly liberal in his views. Bill also could put Tucker in his place gently without making him look bad. When Tucker was on his own, then the shrill Bush shill emerged.
