Latest Bush Meme: Tsunami worse than War
Colin Powell has trained MSM journalists to ask field commanders about how they would compare the devastation of the tsunami with war. The message is always disturbingly the same, the tsunami is worse. Now, I am no expert having neither first hand knowledge of either Fallujah or Sri Lanka, but I distinctly smell a rat. Why are we being asked to feel more sadness for dead Indonesian children than for dead Iraqi children. Am I reading too much into this?

1. Yes, Yes!!! Let's talk about the wave, not Iraq!!!
Bush finally figured out the gift of having something knock his boondoggle off the front page.

2. hmmmmmmm

Narrative shifting? If it was a broad stroke it would be quite clever, the debate moves entirely away from the facts of Iraq and over to the speculations about the tsunami, which are easier to spin?

5. Not quite that over the top
Rove is not that clever. I just think they are trying the old Stalin defense. You know, "One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic." The fact that we see rotting corpses of Indonesian children on TV is fine, as long as we don't see mutilated bodies of Iraqi children. One was a random act of nature, the other was fallout from our search for those ever elusive WMDs. Everytime I think this train wreck of an administration can't get any lower, they go and dig a deeper hole.

10. Well...
... yes..."Oh, you liberals, you carp and whine about a paltry 100,000 Iraqi civilians terminally liberated from Satan Hussain when not so far away; OH! *150,000* have just died all by themselves!* Tsk, Tsk. You need to get things IN PROPORTION."

Okay, yeah, I can see them hinting at that thought, if not overtly saying it in a different way over the next few days. They'll need to do more work to really make the tsunami their tragedy, though, if you see what I mean.

3. Useful turn of conscience
It will probably just ease their consciences - I can just imagine them tellling themselves "oh well, at least bombing a town isn't as bad as a tsunami, let's just go ahead and bomb it! We can't do as much harm as nature so ... what the heck? Bombs away!"

4. Worse than torture at Abu Ghraib too? Worse than your lies
at the Security Council meeting at the U.N.? Worse than those visionary mushroom clouds that Cheney, Rice and junior painted to scare the shit out of folks?

Colin Powell you are worse than Tsunami, and the plates in your head are shifting for a bigger disaster. STFU

6. Good thing ..we're here to set the
record straight that while the tsunami from Hell is one of the worst natural disasters of our time..it is Nothing compared to starting an illegal war built on LIES and killing innocent children with blood on the hands of the US president(sic)!

8. Fallujah still has bodies
in homes and buildings....six weeks after. You're reading it right, my impression too. The meme is "Well, yes, this is what 100,000 dead decaying bodies look like, but Iraq doesn't look like that...it looks ....different...really, it does".
