I am not a Glorified babysitter!!!!! |
|
WARNING: This is a vent and basically in some way a :puffpiece:
I am a worker in the health care field. For years I have worked for/with mentally challenged individuals and lately I am working for a individual who is physically challenge but a very smart individual. I am happy to do this work. It seems to be a calling for me...I digrace...
What really upsets me and wants me to start punishing is the individuals that claim I do not have a "real" job that I sit on my Ass all day and feed my charge/charges and make sure they do not hurt themselves or burn down their house/place of residence.
What gets me even more upset is the fact that the company I have worked for in the past basically just look at us employees as warm bodies who are just their so the company does not get in trouble with the state.
I would just love to be treated by employers and individuals on the street with some respect and my clients to be treated with even more respect by the those same people.
My fellow workers do a job most people would not do for five minutes: We are the ones who make sure those challenged individuals are safe. We are required to do some or even all the things you take for granted. Those of my contemporaries who truly do this job will often do such things as wiping an individual ass without making the individual feel uncomfortable.
YET this is why I write this. I ran into an old high school classmate of mine who asked what I was doing and I told this "Person" who then smirked and said "Oh, so you don't have a real job". You are part of the reason why this country is as bad as it is. Your so call work drains my tax dollars just so those type of people can be forced to live a meaningless life and so you can be a glorified babysitter!"
Needless to say I really had words with this person but I wish to leave you with this idea. Those challenged individuals have as much right to live as you or I do. Image yourself in their situation. Even mentally challenged individuals have some basic concept of self. Even if they are a 50 year old with the mind of a 3 year old.
Thank you for letting me vent.

1. Didn't anyone tell you??? |
|
..compassion is now childish, useless, ugly, a thing for losers, etc. MAKING MONEY is the only great, noble thing today even if you have to slit other people's throats to do it. But as long as you hang a cross around your neck while you're slitting someone else's neck, it makes it downright "godly". But compassion is the work of the devil. ............somewhere Jesus is tossing down shots and saying "someday I'm going to fry these fuckers"......

i've been working with people with disabilities in various capacities (including "hands on" services) for almost 3 decades and i wouldn't change a thing. you won't get rich or fare well in cocktail party conversation but there are ample opportunities for you to affect social change and you can sleep at night.

4. Thank you for caring for the mentally challenged. |

"If not for the grace of God" any one of us could become "challenged" in one way or another. Those of you who care for the least able are truly angels in this world.

just met up with a total jerk today. Who by the way, isn't worth your time of fuming about it. There is no accounting for such idiots. Just keep thinking while they're talking, that someday, just maybe, you'll be in the position of taking care of them! Ha! This is a technique I used for years as an RN. It's worked for me. In fact, it has come true on occasion! Ha again!
