3. Has he asked him why torture is a good idea?
Has he asked why America should be above the Geneva Convention?

5. The battle is joined
The White House refused Thursday to provide senators additional documents on attorney general nominee Alberto Gonzales' involvement in the decision to allow aggressive interrogations of terrorism detainees, setting up a confrontation with Democrats looking into his role in the now-repudiated policies.

10. Oh, Leahy will vote to confirm him when the time comes
he just needs to knock Gonzales around a bit before hand. They've already had private meetings and talked about the issues, the hearing is mostly formality and for show and for to get things on the record.

it is just grandstanding for the appearance sake.

19. Wasn't there a chance
that the Dems would show graphic photos and footage of the abuse. Maybe this is a way to get them NOT to show such graphic evidence.

This morning, I started calling the Repub administration the "Machiavellian Minority". I think it is SOOOOooooo appropriate - they truly believe the "end justifies the means". The Dems need to start thinking that way, within reason, to grab the reigns back on at least 2 of the front - House, Senate, or Presidency.

18. Well, Gonzales is already weaseling
His condemnation of torture is useless, cause it's obvious from his words that he doesn't really have a problem with what has gone in in Iraq and on Gitmo.
