Surprising feature on Jim Lehrer tonight.
If you get a rebroadcast later, try to see it.

It's a feature at the end of the show about memorial services for the victims of the Mosul mess hall massacre.

They spend quite a bit of time on a private memorial for a soldier who was held over in the stop-loss program who had complained to his family that there wasn't enough security at that base.

The mother holds Rumsfeld directly responsible for her son's death and is quite outspoken about it.

I am just so used seeing "even-handed" coverage, that I was surprised to see a piece like this.

There is also a very, very, very affecting piece on Indonesia in this show.

1. So how much money are Americans good for with the woman who lost her son?

2. About even-handed, don't worry..
Not to worry. The opening segment on Alberto Gonzalez wasn't even handed at all. It's clear that Ray Suarez was sucking up to the corporate sponsors and the assistant white house counsel there to mouth the Bushco line in calm, conservative, good-looking legalese... whereas the poor woman from the Human Rights org. was treated abominably and seemed to think that she needed to -sound- conservative and speak legalese, even though she was greatly -troubled- by Gonzalez testimony.

Geezus. I listened carefully to what Gonzalez said and I'm a good sight more than -troubled- by it.

4. My husband and I freaked out about the empty Roll Call tradition.

Actually, it made us rather ill, and he's an Army brat (saw his Special Forces dad get on a plane to Vietnam three times). Anyway, it was terribly macabre and possibly hysteria-inducing.

Keith Olbermann is running the exact same piece on Indonesia on his show right now.
