1. You don't think protests will stop this regime, do you? |
|
It took an entire world united to stop hitler. It will take easily 5 times that to stop this regime. And don't look for it to happen in the voting booth either. Remember, the bush regime owns the voting process now.
It will take a world united sometime in the next 10 - 15 years to stop this regime. Many will die, much will be destroyed. It won't be good times for most.

6. You have summed it up more precisely than any post |
|
I've seen. The situation is as simple as that. All of this whining about whatever the Dems did right or wrong, who we could get elected in 2006 is all irrelevant. As you have said, the situation has gotten to the point that it is beyond the wishes or capabilities of the American people to rectify the current problem. It's now and will continue to be a world problem.
I will point out that there is well enough military fire power in the hands of other governments to stop the madness but, at a cost in lives, money and environment that is almost unspeakable. Surely there is some better way than that.

2. There would be protests. However, they already are outlawing |
|
abortion, it's not something that hasn't already happened. And people have been protesting.
I don't think, though, that anyone will actually go for a complete abortion ban. If republicans delivered on that promise, they'd lose a lot of moderates that only vote for them to get that done. They'll just keep telling them that they'll do it, but never go through with it, IMO.
Course, I could be wrong, so I still donate to NOW.

9. I don't think a complete ban will happen either. |
|
The corporatist bosses in the rethug party use this issue to divide and conquer. But if they actually banned the procedure and all the moderates I know who are pro-choice but voted fro the chimp anyway are forced to watch doctors and young women being hauled off to jail, they wouldn't vote rethug anymore. So it is only useful as a campaign promise to whip up the fundy base.
They have been chipping away at our rights for years. If they do completely outlaw, there will be massive civil disobedience.

3. Over one million women showed up for the march last April. |
|
Maybe something will happen, but it will be ignored by the press and the pukes in the white house.
Most Americans? They will probably roll over.

Well, there will be protests, and celebrations. Perhaps an armed clash between the two - I think the threat of civil war would be on the agenda. People on both sides of the issue take it VERY seriously - and I know I'd fight for my right to choose.

8. They will not outlaw abortion, as they have promised. They need it |
|
...to keep their evangelical base riled up and voting. They'll just continue blaming it on the "activists judges" (don't ask) and the "liberal elite" (how quaint) and, for their naive, obedient evangelicals, that will be enough to keep them coming out to the polls, spitting with rage.
Upholding its legality also has the added benefit of keeping their suburban "security moms" in the fold.
The intellectual disconnect required to maintain these contradictory cultural positions would be impossible in a country where an independent and critical media was allowed to flourish, but, alas, we live in the USA.

12. I live in Detroit-we could start a boat service to Canada |
|
Abortion is legal there, and there are plenty of good doctors in Windsor. We'll just tell everyone they're going for Lasik eye surgery, which people currently go to Windsor for.

16. Women will start doing Menstrual Extractions |
|
http://www.io.com/~wwwomen/menstruation/extraction.htmlhttp://www.sisterzeus.com/MenExt.htmand reading lists like http://www.sisterzeus.com/List.htmBut seriously, the Republicans can't outlaw abortion. If they outlaw abortion, add an anti-gay marriage amendment to the Constitution, and balance the budget, they'll use up every single excuse people have for voting for them.
