The Forbidden Library: More on Banned Books |
|
1984: George orwell - book is "pro communist and contains explicit sexual content
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Mark Twain - too full of racially charged language
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: Lewis Carrol. banned in China for portraying humans and animals on the same level.
Analects. Confucius The first ruler of the Chin Dynasty ordered all books relating to the teachings of Confucius burned. And followers were buried alive.
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank challenged due to "sexually offensive' passages. And because "its a real downer."
Arabian Nights or The Thousand and One Nights - Anonymous. Contains obscene passages which posed a threat to the country's moral fiber.
Beloved. Toni Morrison - due to language.
The Bible. William Tyndale, tried to translate the Bible into vernacular and was stangled and burned at the stake.
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley Banned in Ireland. And in Miller, Mo. Book centered around negative activity.
Bury my Heart at Wounded Kneww: Dee Brown. The book was "slanted."
The Call of the Wild - Jack London Burned in Nazi bondfires. They didn't like sled dogs?
Canterbury Tales - Geoffrey Chaucer. Sexual content.
Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger (my favorite) Anti-Christian and due to profanity, reference to suicide, vulgarity, disrespect, and anti-Christian sentiments.
That's all for now.
All the good books have been banned. It's a good thing if you write a book good enough to get banned.

I got the list from the Forbidden Library - banned and challenged books in Association with Amazon.com.
Osar Wilde - "An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all."
We are losing our freedoms at an alarming rate - but we can always read as long as we can find the books. And these - and others - are books that have already been challenged in school districts or by governments. Its a good place to start the revolution.

A truly GREAT book although it does make Custer look like the hearless, idiot, killing machine that he was.

4. Someone thought the book was too one sided. |
|
It really doesn't take much to get a book banned. We need to be careful.

5. I knew a man who helped put that book together. |
|
It was interesting to hear some the talk as the research came together.
There is an interesting short story, that culminates at the battle of the Little Big Horn, called 'Today is a Good Day to Die', by Madison Smartt Bell. It is the last story in a collection of his called 'Zero db'. Anyone interested in that part of history are urged to read it.
