The people here are so thoughtful, so kind, so very desparate for thoughtful, kind, competant leadership. It gives me a sense of pathos, for all of us, that we continue to be so frustrated by our political leadership - all of it, on both sides of the aisle.
We get so worked up over such very small acts of political probity. Seeing the outpouring of support for Boxer yesterday, for doing something that shouldn't even require a second thought (imagine the shoe on the other foot - can you imagine even ONE republican who would refrain from challenging a Democratic victory in which fraud was staring everyone in the face?). Boxer should have had 40 others standing with her.
Imagine the loyalty and love, the energy, the relief and joy that a truly humane and courageous politician could muster behind them if they just did the right things occasionally, and somehow figured out a way to use the corrupted media to engage us all in the struggle. We've had a lot of people coming close. Kuchinich is an incredibly brave politician. Dean using the internet to engage. Kerry carrying the banner for all of us.
We just don't have effective, consistent, courageous leadership. I can't help but think that that kind of leadership would be rewarded. It saddens me to think how very rare it is, and how rare it looks like it is likely to remain. We are desparate for effective leadership - that's what all of these forums cry out for in their discussions. But we are in a vacuum.

The entire government has been feeding from the same trough. There can be no opposition when your interests are basically the same. Get power. Maintain power.
When one party realizes that maybe things aren't going so good anymore they wish they could change things. But they do not have the record of serving the poublic interest to be able to do anything about it. They would like to but they can't.
Our leader will EMERGE, pushed by us. Our leader will be FROM us. It could be you. It could be me. Men and women are capable of changing the world. Its been done before. But the party that was part of the problem cannot be part of the solution.

because the Democrats are really, at this point, our only hope.
But to see us get so excited that just one senator on the Dem side would actually stand forward to investigate voting fraud . . . to realize just how far our expectations have been lowered just about makes me weep. We really are desperate.
