Why is CNN bad?
A friend of mine just asked me why he is supposed to boycott CNN because he thinks it's OK and I can't really think of a simple answer. Help!

1. because they don't accurately report the news
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 05:38 PM by ixion
they slant stories to fit the conservative bias of the station execs, and the result is infotainment, as opposed to news.

-- They have acted as enablers for the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan by simply not being journalists.

-- They stood by while the unPATRIOTic Act was passed, rather than do their job.

-- They have, apparently, supported a political coup of our democracy.

-- They allowed the 'offical' story of the WTC thing to stand, despite glaring holes in that narrative.

Uh, isn't that enough? :grr:

9. How is that different from any of the other corporate TV news outlets?
Hard to see the distinction.

2. Because it is not a spokesperson for DU?
I like some shows on CNN and dislike others. Same goes for MSNBC. There is really good and really bad - take your pick.

8. It's not much different from MSNBC, Faux or the networks.
They all give a very heavily pro-corporate, pro-war slant to the news, as well as drowning out real news with idiotic infotainment crap like the Scott Peterson case and Kobe Bryant. It's no wonder most Americans are uninformed about the vote fraud/disenfranchisement issue or even Bush's cockamamie plans to loot Social Security.

10. They are a disgrace
The constant technical difficulties that resulted in terminating interviews with key dems just as they got to their main point, all through the campaign cycle.

Moronic statements like Kerry only won the debates because he was more articulate and had a better awareness of the facts - or the only reason he was winning Ohio is because he had more voters.

The constant repetition of the rightwing talking points without any serious criticism of Bush - even the dems would talk about how an issue related to the charges that Kerry was a "flipflopper" - but you'd never hear a conservative on CNN talk about how something related to the charge that Bush was lying again the the public.

The free airtime to the swiftboat liars, without equal time concerning the AWOL issue.

NONSTOP 24 HOURS A DAY coverage of Sandy Berger (Bush critic) "stuffing documents down his pants" followed by little more than a text crawler when it turned out it was really a note to self in his pants pocket, and he was cleared of the charges.

Did someone mention election fra ---- hey! look! It's the Scott Peterson trial!

even though we sent them stacks and stacks of documentation.

12. Seeing a CNN news bunny...
...on the flight deck of a US aircraft carrier, dressed in an Air Force flight suit, giving the "thumbs up" to to a fighter pilot, and saying "Let's roll" to an adoring audience on the first night of the bombing of Baghdad...was for me, the lowest point in the history of journalism.

It was obscene. While CNN was never a primary source of news for me, that spoke volumes about CNN.

14. they're being blackmailed by geeb (brother of 'jeb')
the corporate media has always had a righeous bias, which the neocon right used during the clinton era to divide the country under racial/class lines, making the gap greater (remember oj simpson) and politicising the media, not just the owners but the rank and file....the media finessed the big lie during the 2000 pres race, protecting geeb while lying openly about gore...bush 'won' the election just because mediawores said so....and that was the situ on sept 11/01...with bush in debt to the m'whores. 911 burnt the mediawhores' bridges, they since then have no choice but to support geeb and his loonies or they probably end up in prison. bush and gop are criminals, so their media helpers are too
