Is it possible to renounce citizenship and still live in America?

I was born here, so I'm a legal citizen as far as the law is concerned.. I wouldn't become an illegal alien. What if I just decided to become a Tridimican and updated my documentation to say so?

The way I see it, this is my country and I love it. The American title has been stolen from us by criminals who now have no problem labeling all of us "un-American". Get it? I don't want anyone to make the mistake of assuming I approve of the past and future actions of these "Americans". They don't speak for me, they don't think like me and they certainly don't care about me.. But still, this is my country, and I'm not leaving.

2. Renouncing citizenship formally takes some work

But it's possible. However, once you do so, you cannot simply remain without some lawful status (such as a worker's visa, a student visa, etc.). If you want to renounce your citizenship you have to leave the country (you can't do it while in the U.S.) and then go to a U.S. consulate or embassy and renounce your citizenship. You won't have to worry about living in America after that because, well, good luck getting back in if you're not a student and don't have a visa of some sort.

In short, no, you cannot simply go to Mexico or Canada, renounce your citizenship and then live here as some kind of stateless citizen of the world. Not legally, at least.

Many nations do not recognize it, and the U.S. used to be among them, but not anymore. The State Department doesn't encourage dual citizenship, but it is allowed. Since 1990, you can become naturalized in another country without losing U.S. citizenship, even if the other country makes you take an oath renouncing it.

Do not renounce your U.S. citizenship. We the people are the United States, and I would never renounce my citizenship because, for me, it would be tantamount to renouncing all of the people and ideals I love.
