Guess what I found in Zell Miller's voting record? |
|
I was looking in the new Almanac of American Politics and I actually found 3 issues on which Zell Miller voted with the majority of the Senate Democratic caucus. They are:
1) A Democratic version of the Patient Bill of Rights from June, 2001. Miller voted yes. (S. 1052)
2) McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill. Miller voted yes. (HR 2356)
3) Money for Hate Crimes prosecution. Miller voted yes along with 49 other Democrats to invoke cloture on a bill to prosecute hate crimes. (S. 625)
Still, I shouldn't have to do research to find obscure votes as evidence that a Democrat votes with his party on rare occasions.

1. What alot of ya'll who live outside of GA don't know. |
|
Is that Miller was a fairly Progressive Governor for GA anyway. Education-Big Spender He was the first Governor to advocate changing the flag, sent a welcoming letter to the Gay Games to come to Atlanta. Nearly lost the election over the flag flap. Didn't know until the next day that he won reelction. This was 94, and at that time and day about the only good news along with Chiles being reelected in FL.

he started to slam Democrats on anything and everything.
IMHO, he is singlehandedly responsible for the Democratic loss of Georgia for the first time in over 100 years.

his encouragement of Denise Majette- hurt statewide Dems in Noovember. Without Mckinneys supporters out there on Nov 4th. Gov and Senator lost the election.

I hope McKinney runs as an independent and kicks her out. Since our GA Dem party was too stupid to support her. I also would like to ask where were all those Majette supporters on Lavista Road during the General election? I'll tell you - voting for Saxby Chambliss for Senator, saw many Majette signs next to Chambliss signs. The trade off of sending Mckinney's voters home in Nov to satisfy that crowd in North Druid and Lavista cost the Dems dearly..sorry but those are the facts.

Majette has certainly been *quieter* than McKinney ever was. Unless that's your sole criterion, I'd like to hear how she's better.

11. She speaks out more for groups who have no voice |
|
You need to be loud, because you have very little opportunity to speak for these groups. What has Majette done? If McKinney runs in the General election as an independent Majette is toast. Maybe that will help our stupid gutless Ga. Dem party at the top if she decides to do that. Which is one the best things about Mckinney as soon as her numbers came in the rest of the party was lifted to victory. Majette and Miller are one the reasons the Dems lost the Senate and Governership in GA. 44,000 people who voted for Majette voted for Republicans.

Someone should be along shortly to "explain" to you how crossover voting in that primary was a myth and how Majette was the overwhelming choice of lifelong Democrats in this district.

I've said it before - no one mistook Miller for a raging progressive as governor, but no one mistook him for a fucking conservative either.
And to think that I voted for that asshat in 2000.

6. He voted against the Inhofe amendment |

to some Airline appropiations bill that would repeal the retirement age for pilots. Only 4 Democrats voted yes (interestingly, Feingold and Schumer were two of them, the others were Breaux and Bill Nelson) this session. That's the only time I can think of that he voted with the majority of the Democrats this session, although Saxby Chambliss also voted against it, so right now his voting record has been consistent with that of that SOB's. In the past one he also voted to reinstate the voting rights of convicted felons and against a school vouchers program. Those are the only times I can think of when he voted with the Democrats.
