BETTER THAN BUSH: Nixon would have turned 92 tomorrow. |

Nixon served in the military, had a foreign policy, could speak English coherently, and knew when it was time to go.

3. Strange how he has been redeemed in my eyes... |
|
It took Bush to wash away the disgust and distain I held for Nixon. And to think how Nixon worked to rehabilitate his image---Dubya achieved the image rehabilitation for Nixon better than he could ever do for himself. I almost feel bad for the way I felt about Mr. Nixon.

4. Nixon was one of the great destroyers of history |
|
Google and take a gander at the scorched children of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Not one of Nixon's endeavors, not his moderate domestic vision, nor his foreign policy triumphs with China and the Soviet Union, will ever shroud those death masks, those +3 million lives that he and LBJ extinguished.
The Nixon nostalgia threads on the DU are legion. Alas, I myself do not pine for the man who cut a bloody swathe through Indochina, and introduced Mssr. Pinochet to the good people of Chile. Just because we currently have a sociopathic Gomer Pyle as CIC doesn't mean we should look upon past, more articulate murderers with any semblance of fondness.

He should be waxing nostalgia with Kissinger over the war crimes they committed together.

6. Isn't it amazing how low our standards have sunk |
|
when almost any politician who has ever served looks better than bush? Hell I'd even take George Wallace at this point.

7. Grandma would have turned 112 tomorrow... |

and she despised the fact that they shared birthdays. Grandma's hatred towards Nixon goes back to the Checker speech. It didn't wash with her then, and she never trusted him. Grandma, bless her soul, was pretty vocal about it, too!
