Some people actually say people on the Left are a Minority
I don't mean minority in a bad way, but let's take a look at the 'majority' and what they have to say.

"If we are going to rescue our culture, we need a lot more hate."
- Bill Lind

"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as
a human being." - Jerry Falwell

"I'm looking for where it is cheapest to send them to die."
(referring to AIDS patients) - John Ashcroft

"Stephen G. Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sandra Day O'Connor, David H. Souter, John Paul Stevens and Anthony Kennedy. These are the Supreme Court justices who have found hidden in the U.S. Constitution a right to practice homosexual sodomy." - Joe Farah
http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=33447

"It is interesting, that termites don't build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into institutions are primarily termites. They are into destroying institutions that have been built by Christians, whether it is universities, governments, our own traditions, that we have.... The termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought to
be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation." - Pat Robertson

"Bush has reached out to these other groups like Blacks and
Hispanics.... He ought to do his reaching out to the people who elected him" - Phyllis Schlafly
http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/quotes/scar_s.htm#SCHLAFLYPHYL

"True to the letter of Old Testament law, homosexuals... adulterers, blasphemers, astro-logers, and other will be executed." - RJ Rushdoony

We are not a Minority, but we are being made insignificant by the RW, Moral values, honesty in government, and equality are also being made insignificant by the RW. That is why we must stop them.

1. one way to help would be to stop using terms like left and right
Americans don't identify themselves as leftists. For many, it still has an association with communism. For others, terms like left and liberal have been sullied by the media. Americans do, however, express support for a majority of Democratic policies when asked about specific issues. That they don't vote Democratic has to be seen as a failure of the party to adequately articulate it's positions and ideology.
From my perspective, left and right, conservative and liberal, no longer have meaning in American society. They are remnants of a cold war paradigm, not applicable today. Lastly, they provide short hand to slam someone without articulating thoughtful reasons. For Fox, it's calling people liberal and leftist. For members of this forum, it's calling someone moderate or "DLC." Most of the time, people say absolutely nothing by using these terms. Moreover, all they typically mean is that they dislike an individual or a publication. It's empty rhetoric. The goal should be to articulate values and positions rather than using trite labels.

3. Why does the culture need to be rescued?
That's what I don't get. A culture is what it is - it evolves over time, to fit the circumstances. You can't rescue something that doesn't exist anymore. Why long for the repressive, in-denial model of the past?

I've had this discussion with Mombob more than once, never get anywhere. She just insists that things were wonderful in the thirties, forties, and fifties.

I think it's one of the most basic differences between liberals and conservatives.
