A childhood acquaintance of mine was murdered this week
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 09:30 PM by Xipe Totec
If this gets moved to the lounge I'll understand. It just didn't seem appropriate for that forum.

He was the youngest brother of one of my high school buddies. He was abducted on December 30th and his body was found by the side of the road on January 4th. Broken, beaten, and with seven bullet holes. Two of them to the face. He was in his early 40's and about to become the police commissioner for my old home town in Mexico.

Here is the story, I finaly found a link in English:

4. Yes, he was married and had children
I moved away from that area near Brownsville Texas, close to 30 years ago. I just heard about it from my brothers who still live down there.

It is hard for me to accept the reality of a Mexico that is so mired in corruption that even a police commissioner is not safe to walk the streets.

Thank you for your sympathy.

6. Thank you, I hope so too
But the chances are very slim. When I was still in high school his father was also murdered in front of his house as he left for work. They never found the person responsible. That was over thirty years ago.

The level of corruption in the Mexico-US border is just depressing.

9. This is another gap in the thin blue line
that keeps drugs from reaching the USA.

I am sorry too. For him, and for us. He was a good guy, and that's why they killed him. He was the last surviving member of Grupo Palma, an elite drug enforcement team within the Mexican Judicial Police. The other members were also murdered.
