1. Flag burning is a crude, and repellant to me, but it is protected speech
A flag burning amendment violates the very spirit of the consititution. The amendment is far more repulsive and unAmerican than the actual act of flag-burning.

2. I think you desecrate the flag by
standing in front of it while lying to the country!

3. I'd rather see the flag burnt than see this a-hole desecrating it.

4. My father always tells me
That he went to Vietnam, spent 20 years in the Army and feels that he fought so that we would have the freedom to burn the flag if we wanted. He dose not like it, but if someone dose it, it is because Americans like him defended this country and gave us that right.

5. If the flag burning amendment passes...
you know that an amendment banning Uncle Sam on stilts will soon be in the works. There is no social ill that can escape the scrutiny of the GOP.

6. the flag burning amendment -- or any law prohibiting flag burning --
is treading on very dangerous ground in that it can be considered nothing other than a "thought crime" . . . the approved way of disposing of a flag is to burn it -- generally accomplished by the American Legion or the VFW . . . in those cases, it's okay because the flag is being burned for the "right reasons", i.e. it's okay because of what the flag burners are thinking at the time . . . someone burning a flag as part of a demonstration, however, presumably had some other reason in mind -- was thinking something different -- so it's okay to prosecute them . . .

laws against flag burning are thought crimes because prosecution depends on the reason the flag burner has in mind when committing the act . . . and once you go down that road, you can start prosecuting people for ANY kinds of thoughts that the government finds distasteful . . . very, very scary indeed . . .

7. The best reason not to burn the flag....
is because you live in a country where you can.

8. I don't see the big deal over flag burning.
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 02:15 AM by Placebo
I can burn any damn thing I want to, as long as I'm not putting myself or others in any physical danger, or destroying someone else's property, etc...

Bush and his evil pack of thieving thugs shit all over the Constitution everyday, how about an amendment against that?

9. It seems to have become another culture war issue...
...albeit on a more minor scale.
