Glorified, Gossip Columnists--my disgust w/today's media...

Why is there more coverage of the Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston split than there was of the challenge of Ohio's electoral votes? Or anything else about this election being dirty?

I know quite a few others here have voiced concern and disdain about this. It just really pissed me off surf the net last night and see so many postings about Brad and Jen and barely a thing about Ohio, electoral votes, etc. Except of course HERE on DU.

I could care less about Brad and Jen. I am sorry that they are weathering rough times--but ultimately whatever is going on with them doesn't affect ANY of US or the greater populace.

When is the media going to pull their head out of their collective ass and start reporting on some issues that actually concern the greater good? As far as I'm concerned, they are nothing more than glorified, gossip columnists and I'm sick of the whole lot of them!

1. It goes both ways...

it's not just what people are fed - it's what they choose to consume.

Both headlines were available on all news sites - I bet anything that the Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston headline got clicked on at least 5 times as much as the election challenge headline - probably closer to 50 times as much.

People have ALWAYS been infatuated with salacious celebrity gossip. It's not a new phenomenon. If people WANTED more hard-hitting news, the media would provide it. They go where the market is. Sadly, people care more about Pitt/Aniston than they do about the election challenge.

I'm not convinced the media doesn't cover more hard hitting news because people don't want it or aren't interested. I feel it is because the media is being controlled. I believe they are afraid and it is easier to report 'fluff pieces' than something that may get the powers that be scrutinized.
