Drudge: GOP chair says dems hit 'new low'
GILLESPIE EXPLAINED ON NBC'S MEET THE PRESS: "IF YOU SAW THE DEBATE THE OTHER NIGHT WITH THE NINE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, I THINK HISTORY WILL SHOW THIS FIELD HAS TAKEN PRESIDENTIAL DISCOURSE TO A NEW LOW. THE RHETORIC YOU HEAR, ON EITHER SIDE OF THE AISLE, RONALD REAGAN NEVER SAID JIMMY CARTER COULDN'T FIND COUNTRIES IN HIS OWN HEMISPHERE.

"MONDALE NEVER SAID REAGAN WAS A MISERABLE FAILURE. WHEN BILL CLINTON RAN AGAINST GEORGE BUSH, HE DIDN'T COMPARE HIM TO SADDAM HUSSEIN OR THE TALIBAN. WHEN BOB DOLE RAN AGAINST CLINTON, HE DIDN'T SAY HE WAS A PHONY OR LIAR. THE WORDS WE'RE HEARING FROM THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES IS SO BEYOND POLITICAL DEBATE. THIS IS POLITICAL HATE SPEECH.

"I THINK THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL REJECT THAT APPROACH. THEY APPRECIATE THE PRESIDENT'S STRONG AND PRINCIPLED LEADERSHIP, THAT HE HAS A POSITIVE AGENDA AND THEY HAVE NOTHING BUT NEGATIVITY AND PESSIMISM TO OFFER

4. Apparently this is another guy who tends toward self-delusion...
what he really can't believe is that the truth is coming out and people are no longer afraid to tell it.

And even if it would be true that the democrats have sunk to a "new low" the answer to that is we will NEVER be able to get down to the level of Junior & the Gang.

5. Terry McAuliff handled him well
in his rebuttal. He pointed out several examples of how the R's ran miserably negative campaigns - including poppy. Gillespie may have thought he was going to have a cake walk with Russert. Terry McA also pointed out that Gillespie was the 3rd GOP chair in about as many years. HAH!

7. LOL -- He was on a roll, and wouldn't let Russert shut him up
Terry also brought up the right's shameful mistreatment of Max Cleland.

18. Cleland!
That was the worst! I still haven't gotten over it and I don't live in Georgia. It's hard for me to even watch Chambliss when he's a guest on the shows. :puke:

6. Gillespie hasn't heard Mike Malloy yet
nor have our candidates except Kucinich as far as I can tell. If "miserable failure" is a low blow, we should be kicking the ankles out from underneath the GOP.

11. "Miserable Failure" is an established fact by now.
It is not merely some bush opponent's opinion. It is a fact. It is the truth. And they can't handle the truth. Sure can't spin it.

Don't lie and we won't call you liars. Take care of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter (+), Rush Limbaugh, et al and you won't hear this. Simple as that.

13. When the foo shits, Gillespie.
It's the Repugnants who've performed to an all-time new low, despite the snake-bellied challenge of Bush*s forebears. Replete with a history of corruption, they've now assembled the most corrupt and mendacious madministration in the nation's history.

because that way I am up-to-date without needing to go to this page. But I am curious, does he ever complete his FLASH articles? It says developing... Do they every develop to the point of publishing a rebuttal?

15. To call Bush on his job performance is right on.
No one earned his F except himself. He has earned the title of the biggest screw up in the history of the US presidency.

16. Why would the repukes do this?
Lately, they were bitching about the blogs that 'hate' Bush, now they are all aflitter about how much the Dem candidates are big meanies for calling Bush(gasp!) names!!!! And bad ones, too. Gawd amighty, these are the people Andrew Sullivan called the grownups? Can one imagine how much fun the beltway whores would have had regarding the meanies bit if the Dems had complained about the repukes calling the Clintons names?

Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 04:39 PM by Redleg
Remember how the Rethugs treated Bill CLinton and Al Gore? Perhaps the Rethuglican candidates didn't say those nasty things, but they didn't have to because they had Rush, Hannity, Gillespie, Liddy, Coulter, and the right-wing enabling media to do the dirty work for them. FUCK 'EM if they don't like it. What comes around goes around. I'm just happy to see the Dems fighting back for once.

is a Bible-thumpin, homophobic fundie who couldn't find his own a-hole with both hands, a mirror and his momma giving directions. Remember, you heard it here first.

20. HA!
Americans love negative campaigning, check out the book "Smashmouth, Notes from the 2000 Campaign trail" by Dana Millbank. It's how politics is supposed to be, angry and nasty, this isn't some kind of gentlemans hobby its fucking life and death. They think it's negative now, we haven't yet begun to fight.

21. Americans...and hopefully Democrats...are tired of the hypocrisy...
...of the RWing Republicans that think that it's okay for them so say ANYTHING they want about Democrats...but it's 'partisan' and beyond the pale for Dems to return fire.

- Gillespie and other RWing zealots seem to think that we're going to continue to play the nice guy and not try to remove their hobnail boots from our necks. He's wrong.

22. What crack are they smoking?
I just witnessed 8 years of crucifying Clinton, and people in Congress like Newt Gingrich, Jesse Helms, Tom DeLay, Trent Lott and Bob Dornan (not to mention the type of rhetoric that comes from people like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity and company). Who do they think they are kidding? The Democrats are finally showing some backbone, Bush's poll numbers have flipped to unfavorable for the first time and all of a sudden they want to pretend they're on the high road. They've been on the low road so long I don't think they can find the high road. To paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson waxing philosophical on a similar vein: "We could always be sure of finding them on the Low Road. There was no need to look anywhere else for the bastards."
