Jan 30. USA to pull out of Iraq
Mark my words on this, the US will begin pulling out of Iraq after the Jan 30 election.

Iraq will begin killing themselves and we will pull out with the simple minded phrase of "The Iraqi must now fight for their own freedom."

What a disaster.

1. Good. The Iraqis can take care of themselves...
without the US destroying anyone opposing its imperial rule.

2. We'll be there for another thirty years, IMHO...
Couple Oil and the military Industrial complex, and you have a lot of influential "people" who see this as a goldmine.

3. We'll keep our bases, ** wouldn't want the French or Russians
go in to stop the Civil War.

4. They won't leave. Oil. If the US leaves, the Iraqis will gleefully
destroy their oil.

I can no longer blame them. *'s selfish immaturity and quest for petty bloodlust (and a heap of utter lies) is what got us into this mess.

* knows he can't let the troops leave. Not when his juicy corporate oil happens to be over there.

Which is almost a good thing; if there was no oil, how well would the US then be seen if we just packed up and left after our little rape and plunder, without taking responsibility for the crimes we had committed there?

5. No way.
We have to secure our oil first. We'll be there for a long, long, long, long time.

6. Only If We Can Take All Of The Middle-East Oil With Us
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 12:31 PM by loindelrio
In other words, we are not leaving.

The whole purpose of this adventure was to gain a permanent strategic advantage in the Middle East. With the Reich-Wing legions stockaded in Iraq, 2/3 of the worlds remaining petroleum reserves are within a 10 hr. M1 ride. (On edit: not to mention most of the remaining natural gas reserves).

While this may seem laudable to the morally challenged American citizen, the problem with this logic is that the cost of this 'Empire of Oil' (assuming we do not get dead in the process) could be better used for conversion of our energy infrastructure. Even if we control (through puppet regimes) the oil, it is still going to run out eventually.
