Billionaire urges Bush to give inaugural funds to tsunami survivors
WASHINGTON - Dallas billionaire Mark Cuban has a suggestion for President Bush: Cancel the inauguration parties and donate the money saved - some $40 million - to the tsunami victims.

The irreverent, outspoken Dallas Mavericks owner won't say how much he has given to the disaster victims, but his Dec. 31 proposal on his Web site has generated controversy - and support - on the Internet.

"My point was that this was a great opportunity for the president to stand up and say that we are committed to aid, but we need to take a first step towards austerity so we can reduce the deficit," Cuban said Friday via e-mail.
...
Asked if it was fair to deny Bush supporters a celebration, Cuban, who said he voted for the president, replied, "Since when is the level of celebration defined by the amount spent?"
...
"I don't think it will help anything in Sri Lanka if the balls were, you know, peeled back in terms of the inauguration," former President Bush said Monday on CNN's "Larry King Live." "I think they're separate questions, and the country - our country - can do a lot of things at the same time."

Clinton said on the same program: "I voted for the other fellow, but President Bush won this election fair and square. And he ought to - he ought to be able to have his inaugural. And his supporters should be able to celebrate it, however they see fit. And I don't think that it will detract one red cent from the money that we will give privately or publicly to this relief effort."

16. We have been waiting over 4 years for them to hang their selves with
the rope they made. Let the public see what they are really about. etc, etc, all to no avail. If you want Hillary then too bad - I hope the Clintons are exposed for what they have cost the Democratic Party. She will not be the first women President mark my words. Clinton's illness maybe a preemptive strike by the BFEE to neturalize him if Hillary decides to run.. Maybe he knows this and that is why he has been kissing so much Bush butt lately.

2. The Sun King thinks not.
The courtiers and sycophants need to be feted and be amazed at the power and riches of God/Bush.

12. Yeah but to be honest, this was his last run and he was not in the
best of health either. But if that was part of the motivation, the right thing was still done.

15. FDR cancelled the parties
Out of respect. It was war time. The Bush Mob has no inkling of respect. This is going to be disastrous for our international reputation...which is already in tatters. We'll look like the gluttonous Romans who reveled in excess. This administration is foul. What would Jesus do? Donate aid to the victims or hold a ball?

on his coronation no matter what. I think second terms should always begin quietly with a low-key swearing in. After all, it's more of the same, so what's to "celebrate"? (In the case of the chimp, of course, there's nothing to "celebrate" except the prospect of economic ruin coupled with unending war, death, and destruction.)

And, Clinton should shut the hell up about "fair and square" and giving the chimp his party. I'm goddamned sick and tired of Dems always trying to sound magnanimous.
