Does it amaze you that cowards are able to gain the support of people who |

Support the Troops? Look at Bush, Cheney, Rove,Kristol, Wolfowitz, Gingrich,Perle etc. And contrast them with Kerry,Gephardt, Daschle.

8. Please read my post carefully.I said Support The Troops as a way to |
|
describe people who flaunt their patriotism not the silent majority who do not display their bumper stickers and are no less patriotic.

"I said Support The Troops as a way to describe people who flaunt their patriotism not the silent majority who do not display their bumper stickers and are no less patriotic."
The original post said no such thing. I pointed out what your logic implies, and you explained what you really meant.
The error is in your original post.

Isn't it amazing that people who (ostensibly) support the troops also support cowards like Bush, Cheney, Rove, Kristol, Wolfowitz, Gingrich, Perle, etc.?

12. And yes, it would, if not for a defining characteristic in these people |
|
They bear elements of the Authoritarian Personality. They are more likely to conform to the will of traditional hierarchy, like the military, and the current administration. It manifests itself most vividly and persuasively in their religious activity. To me, it's the most obvious common feature of the conservative base.

16. That's how I would view it, too. |

Logically, it just confounds you, since most cultural icons and heroes in Western civilization that I remember growing up were the weak and mortal standing up to the powerful. David and Goliath. Odysseus and the gods. Most surprisingly, the central figure of the religion in which they wrap so much of their identity literally died in opposition to the moral status quo. Unfortunately, Christianity, as the massive human institution, has frequently eclipsed Christ, as told in the Gospels.

I think with enough marketing dough (or control of the media), you could successfully sell half of Americans candy-coated dog turds as a snack food.
