http://www.wsav.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSAV/MGArticle/SAV_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031780054579&path=!frontpage

And here is what lies beneath the myth of "compassionate conservative:"

It just blows my mind.....I'm almost speechless.

by MissouriConservative

Well fortunately, kidneys grow on trees, so no one else was bumped to the back of the waiting line.

by skip_intro

I hope they send flowers to the funeral of the American who had to die of kidney failure because of this disgrace.

by Finalapproach29er

Just more proof that the USA is the greatest and most humane country in the world.

It's great to be a foreigner I wonder if a more traditional American can get the same treatment, I often times see news stories of "fund-raisers" for terminal children dying of cancer and read stories of parents having to sell their homes to pay the hospital bills. I'm just wondering why many of these children aren't getting free medical care?

by Coleus

Dang immigrants and their kidneys.

by Free and Armed

It's nice to know that America and Americans will pick up this tab. We are the welfare capital of the world. Wonder how he got bumped up the list....I hear it is a long one.

by MissouriConservative

Many people die every day waiting for one.

by Coleus

I can see federal law advocating helping America's poor with bills like this....but illegals as well? Doesn't that put American law at odds with itself?

It's illegal to aid a criminal, but that's exactly what federal law is advocating....aiding criminals.

by MissouriConservative

Heck, if our borders were guarded we wouldn't have this problem.

by Coleus

I wonder if a more traditional American can get the same treatment,
An American with no insurance would have been told get lost.

by FITZ

They didn't want the inconvenience or any kind of wait. It worked --- they went straight to the front of the line --- and it's completely free for them.

40. FITZ is correct about the no insurance. In FL, Medicaid will not
pay for chemo, just the drugs so you can "die" humanely.

Their is real anger on this thread, but directed at the wrong place. Good little Bushbots that have been brainwashed that national health care is BAD. But somewhere in their brain lurks the dissident thought that no health care is BAD.

The problem is refocusing their anger. Why are Americans, now 45 million strong without health care? Why does an insurance CEO have to make 94 million a year while they do without? Is compassionate conservatism the Kevorkian Option?

22. Actually, most of us have seen
their mindset, either in real life or with people who are loud, nasty and trolling in the past. It's very simple, just like they are: they're ignorant, intolerant and utterly and completely without morals or merit. Those who claim intelligence are "Bush" repukes because they are greedy, insensitive, bigoted assholes. Those we know who can't claim a high IQ are just plain ignorant.

The word "nuanced" has been used a lot in the past couple of years, and I think it applies most aptly to "Bush" pukes. They have no nuances. They're transparent. They stand for a set of values that the devil himself might take pause and question. There isn't a decent soul who supports GWB. People who HAVE souls have no problem distinguishing the good and evil of the repuke party.

It was most apparent in this most recent election. Ignorance, stupidity and intolerance were the seeds of terror spawned by the repukes under Karl Rove. They managed to hoodwink at last 20% of the population with their lies and their deceitful ads and other propaganda, but there was a good 29% that voted for GWB simply because they were assholes. End of story.

39. A lot of Germans wrote off Hitler and his Brownshirts
As a result they were unable to combat his appeal. We need to understand what is happening to our country. There are nuances. Some vote Republican only because they feel sorry for all the aborted little babies. Some want to return to 19th century robber Barron capitalism. Some think that life should be like a Rambo movie.

I've seen and heard enough of their "mindframe" to last me a couple of lifetimes, thankyouverymuch.

Just like the right wing pundits, their greatest fear is to BE IGNORED.

To not even be mentioned. To not even be a blip on anyone's radar. To hear crickets chirping while holding a dead mike in their hands.

THAT is their greatest fear.

These people ADVOCATE NUKING the Middle East. They advocate GREED and MURDER and are perfectly ok with election problems.

They don't need to be "understood" they need to be SHUNNED, they need to be MARGINALIZED so we can get back to some common sense and human decency in this country.

23. It Is A Little Annoying To Us Who Have To Cough Up Our Own 51K
Not that the kid got a kidney, but that breaking the law was rewarded with something beyond the reach of many who did nothing wrong beyond having failing kidneys. Those people have to make do with dialysis because even if Medicare does cover 80%, the 20% is beyond them (and they're only covered for antirejection drugs for 36 months). But many of those people aren't chubby-cheeked teens - they're older black men, Native Americans, and sometimes even middle-aged women.

32. NONSENSE>>
This is Freeper spin.

The fact is that an ailing child or adult with failing kidneys is put on the list based on need, survivability and likelihood/non-likelihood of rejection. Finances don't enter into the list.

Sure, having a huge chunk of cash can grease the skids so you can be moved to the front of the line, but lack of cash/lack of insurance will not keep you off of the list.

Bottom line, a child got a kidney and a chance to live. It hardly matters what his nationality was. Or are we saying that the hospitals should become an arm of the US government?

The Freepers are trying to connect the dots on two separate pieces of paper, as usual.

I wonder, though, does anyone know how many hits they get a day versus how many we get? Whose share is increasing and who is declining?

I suspect that DU is growing while Freeperville is becoming a ghost town, but I don't know that for sure. Does anyone know?

37. Getting Listed Is Not the Same As Getting the Surgery
You deliberately misunderstood.

The family in question broke the law and was rewarded for it.

US kidney patients who can't afford the cost of the transplant surgery they are responsible for or the anti-rejection meds don't have wealthy business people throwing cash at them, so they make do on dialysis until they can't survive the dialysis anymore. Then they die.

It's not about denying the kid his tx - it's about how many adult citizens are dying on dialysis (which is not as much fun as you may have heard) because they can't afford the tx surgery and the drugs. It's about illegal actions being rewarded, and it's about the unfairness of the system to all - cute teens and uncute adults.

You have made a lovely straw man; too bad it doesn't fit the facts.

33. My husband, who just died, received dialysis through
Medicare, which gave him five more years on earth than if he hadn't gotten dialysis. We too could not have afforded the very expensive treatment if there was no government program for it. We can look forward to our country being like Mexico in the future, if the Republicans gut Medicare and Social Security as they plan to.

Maybe if that freeper's child or grandchild dies because the treatment was unaffordable except to the ultra-rich parasites on our economy, then maybe the scales might fall from their eyes so they can see the truth.

This has to be the most insensitive and cruel posting I have yet to see on Free Republic.
