Is bush a Hitler-type?
I dunno if bush is a Hitler, but he sure does use a lot of Hitler techniques, no doubt about that!

Here's lotsa links to various articles comparing the two, for anyone interested;

1. Hitler was a much better speaker...

...and didn't have that "Beavis and Buthead with Texan accent" giggle. Compared to Bush, Hitler was suave.

(edit: That's a good link. The above was the first thing that popped into my mind without checking the link first.)

2. they think killing the jews was hitler's only mistake
other than that, they think he was a great guy.
the evidence is that they are emulating virtually everything about him and his techniques and his agenda.
remove the extreme anti-semitism, and replace it with (comparatively) mild anti-homosexualism, and that's pretty close to the banana republicans.

or so they wish. the nazis were much better at it.

3. Thom Hartmann's take on this.
I hope everyone here has either read this or will read this.

12. bush? or Hitler?
It started when the government, in the midst of a worldwide economic crisis, received reports of an imminent terrorist attack.

But the warnings of investigators were ignored at the highest levels, in part because the government was distracted; the man who claimed to be the nation's leader had not been elected by a majority vote and the majority of citizens claimed he had no right to the powers he coveted. He was a simpleton, some said, a cartoon character of a man who saw things in black-and-white terms and didn't have the intellect to understand the subtleties of running a nation in a complex and internationalist world. His coarse use of language - reflecting his political roots in a southernmost state - and his simplistic and often-inflammatory nationalistic rhetoric offended the aristocrats, foreign leaders, and the well-educated elite in the government and media. And, as a young man, he'd joined a secret society with an occult-sounding name and bizarre initiation rituals that involved skulls and human bones.

Nonetheless, he knew the terrorist was going to strike (although he didn't know where or when), and he had already considered his response. When an aide brought him word that the nation's most prestigious building was ablaze, he verified it was the terrorist who had struck and then rushed to the scene and called a press conference.

He used the occasion - "a sign from God," he called it - to declare an all-out war on terrorism and its ideological sponsors, a people, he said, who traced their origins to the Middle East and found motivation for their evil deeds in their religion.

It's not surprising the bush=Hitler rhetoric is so wide-spread.

17. The AHD definition of "fascism" has changed
The article (thanks for posting it, BTW) lists a 1983 American Heritage Dictionary edition definition:

"fas-cism (fbsh'iz'em) n. A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism."

But the online 2000 version has removed the line "typically through the merging of state and business leadership". It now reads like this:

1. often Fascism a. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. b. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government. 2. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

http://www.bartleby.com/61/57/F0045700.html

Fascism hasn't changed between 1983 and 2000, (or between 1933 and 2001, for that matter) so I wonder why the definition did. It seems to me that the corporate influence is pretty crucial to the definition. Mussolini himself said it might better be called "corporatism."

20. You're very welcome.
It must be pointed out (in light of the NYT et al. having a weird fetish with DU) that like me, Hartmann was not calling Bush "the next Hitler". In my opinion, that would be giving him too much credit, being named Time's "Person of the Year" not withstanding. I think the main point is that we are not learning from history. We have allowed an illegitimate government to capitalize on the death of thousands of Americans, and hundreds of thousands of Middle Easterners have died in vain because of it. And to think that, if this momentum does not die down on its own, things will "swing back to the middle" without the intervention of foreign entities, e.g. economic sanctions against the U.S., is naive.

6. Hitler was considered a buffoon at first, too
Many did not take Hitler seriously at first, he was considered by many to be a buffoon early on. There is nothing like being "misunderestimated". One can slip under the radar quite easily when dismissed as being a lightweight.

One of the brilliant aspects of the Holocaust museum in Washington, DC, is that visitors walk through a time line which shows how things at first changed just a little by little in 1930s Germany. While there were a good number of people who took notice and either opposed what was going on or left the country, lots of folks did not pay much mind to the changes. Also, too many agreed with the Nazi agenda.

25. The folks who are sporting the "W" and "flag" stickers on
their cars probably sincerely think that they are patriotic Americans.
If that crew ever discovers that their revered leader was actually a traitorous criminal who stole their Country, I can't imagine the civil unrest that will occur then. They are going to furious, rightfully so.

The next question is, what then? Is there any way to unseat a regime that has control of all of the centers of power? To answer my own question, I don't think so. Outside help would be needed.

21. I would disagree.
I mean, what is happening in Iraq is evil and the death toll horrible, but it can hardly be put on the level of the attempted systematic destruction of an entire racial and religious group to satisfy a twisted ideology.

15. History will be the judge .....
......... however Hitler started WW II by saying Poland had attacked a German
station. Much like bush said Saddam had links to 9/11 and had WMDs.
Both "achieved power" with less then a majority. Both had skilled people
them getting a certain message out about them and their actions which
proved not to be true. They both used God, patriotism, and the message that
"We must attack our enemy first or die." Hitler had his Leni Refensthal and
the "Triumph of the Will" bush has Rove, fox, and staged a staged aircraft
carrier landing. and so on .......

but we have the net and now we have the Boxer Rebellion.

:kick:

bush does have Rove and Rove uses Creative Response Concepts. They
are linked to the media and plant stories i.e. Dan Rather vs bush Air Guard
Record and the Swift Boat shits.

check out http://www.crc4pr.com/

and tell everybody out those shits.

22. His blind arrogance opens him up to being as bad as Hitler.
Hitler was personally courageous (see his WWI record), a manipulative genius and a gifted orator. Bush has none of these positive attributes, nor any other that I can detect. Lack of intelligence & a phony folksiness seem to be the hallmarks of his appeal, but despite massive election fraud the appeal is real for millions.
