Democrats need to investigate this Armstrong issue, shut down hate radio!
If possible, start impeachment hearings as well. Appoint a Kenneth Starr style investigator to dig deep deep deep into this. Tax payers should not be paying Armstrong $240,000, this must be illegal!

Commentator paid by U.S. to tout program

Prominent conservative commentator Armstrong Williams acknowledged yesterday that he was paid $240,000 by the Department of Education to promote its initiatives on his syndicated television program and to other blacks in the media.

2. Was he paid by the DOE
or was he paid by an advertising firm hired by the DOE?

That may make the difference.

Why did Rod Paige resign?

5. It was an illegal payment
whether to an ad agency or to Williams. There was no place in that budget for advertising.

However, as I understand it, Williams's check was cut by the DOE, itself.

7. See I think that makes a world of difference
If he was paid by the ad agency, wasn't he just doing, in essence, an ad? Which he should have disclosed, but was it against the law?

The payment coming from the DOE though, has got to be against the law. Does anyone know of the specific law broken here?

3. Wouldn't you love to see guests on the gasbag shows
challenge the right wing moderators: "Williams said he was the tip of the iceberg, that many pundits and talk show people are being paid by the Bush administration to propagandize the public. Why should anybody trust a damned thing any of you guys say from now on??"

O'Reilly's head would explode.

4. Independant Counsel law sunset a few years ago.
There will be no official inquiry without the support of (a republican) congress.

Bush isn't going to be tied to this.

10. Did they try to impeach him over that?
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 04:28 PM by Mistress Quickly
Honest question, I really don't know. Because I know he wasn't tied to it.

I thought the impeachment had to do with lying?

** on edit, oh the irony of that last statement, right? **
