Mr. Speaker, I move that when the House adjourn, we do so to Salem, a quaint village in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, whose history beckons us thence.

1998, during the Clinton impeachment, but I have no idea who said it.

Edit: It was Gary Ackerman (here's his website: http://www.house.gov/ackerman/

2. Believe it or not, it's one of Reagan's: "Trust, but verify"
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 05:26 PM by BrainRants
It comes in especially handy when challenging the shrub administration today.

As in: "We trust Shrub won Ohio, but we want to verify it you election stealing bastards!"

edit: spelling

10. I'm from Missouri, so I just have to quote Harry Truman ...
"Democracy is based on the conviction that man has the moral and intellectual capacity, as well as the inalienable right, to govern
himself with reason and justice."

and

"No government is perfect. One of the chief virtues of a democracy,
however, is that its defects are always visible and under democratic processes can be pointed out and corrected."

and, though it's not necessarily political, I've always liked this quote from Harvey Fierstein:

"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself."

12. My favorite Democratic quote is ...
"The problem with Democrats is that when you tell them to form a firing squad, they stand in a circle."

I just can't remember who said it. :-(

Anyone know who it was?
