Be Here Now ......
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 07:59 PM by H2O Man
Be Here Now
by George Harrison

Remember, Now, Be Here Now
As it's not like it was before.
The past, was. Be Here, Now.
As it's not like it was before -- it was

Why try to live a life,
that isn't real,
no how.
A mind, that wants to wander,
'round a corner,
is an un-wise mind.

Now, Is, Here Now,
and it's not like it was before,
remember, Now, Be Here Now,
and it's not like it was before -- it was.

Now that the 2004 election is over, and the 2008 election is still far away, I am trying to focus on the issues that are of current significance to democrats and social activists on the left. I can easily think of ten:
1- the war in Iraq
2- voter fraud
3- the likely military draft
4- unemployment & poverty
5- the TCE in your drinking water
6- the mercury in the tissues of your organs
7- this administration's assault on public education
8- the prostitution of the main stream media
9- racism, sexism, and all the other "-isms"
10- local & state elections in 2005 and '06

I know that it's hard for me to let go of the 2004 election. I will keep the outrage and the energy, but let go of the parts that can't be changed.

It's fun for me to think about 2008. But I will not become disctracted, and lose sight of my responsibility to do the things today that need to be done today, so that I will be prepared to do what I need to do in 2008.

And I will remember that in each of the 10 cases I mentioned, we face a common enemy. I will work towards creating unity. Alone, we are like a finger that our common enemy can easily break. Together, these ten fingers form two powerful fists.

Day nay toh,
H2O Man

6. I agree with the words, surely.
but after years of being marinated in regrets and guilts of the past and worries for the futures of so many, it's quite the feat to grapple up that hill.

7. As long as we "live"
in the past, we will be marinated in regrets and guilt. And if we keep looking too far ahead, we'll only be anxious and worried about the unknown.

It's great to learn from the past, and to plan for the future.

But once we start doing that which is possible - today - we will find out that tomorrow takes care of itself remarkably well, and we build pleasant memories.

"Time" is a concept that exists only in our heads, and is only useful as a measure of meaningful activity. It's always "now."

4. Well, that's strange ....
the name of my next group was going to be The Progressives. We were going to play progressive music, dance progressive dances, sing progressive lyrics, and see where it led. Back to the drawing board.

9. Something to think about
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 09:38 PM by bloom
I think it is better to call voter fraud, "election fraud". So it doesn't sound like something the voters are doing.

It's a framing thing.

Also - we'll probably have to fight for Social Security and against the loss of more civil liberties.

10. You are right.
Election fraud is more accurate.

Also, we should be fighting the proposed changes in Social Security, and we should never accept further restrictions of civil liberties.
