Anybody catch the Today show interview "Are You Happy"?
Katie Couric was interviewing the Time magazine editor at large about the current issue of Time magazine feature article entitled "Are You Happy?". The editor, a woman whose name I cannot recall was spouting off about the psychology of "being happy" it was the biggest crock 'o shit I had ever seen on morning television then she drops this bomb. The happiest people according to the article? Christian fundamentalists. My jaw dropped. Since when did catering to the lowest common denominator become the norm in this country? Jerry Falwell has become a regular on CNN. They are fighting a secret war, a "culture war" to use their words and the enemy is us. They want to drag this country down and enact the laws of the Old Testament. We must fight this at every level!

3. I've seen people handing out Christian literature on the street
who seemed to be in a state of bliss.

I can believe it.

6. Remember the Moonies?
They hit New York in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember they used to go around with this happy idiot look on their faces.
Same type of thing -- they had figurative lobotomies and turned their thinking over to others.
It's easier to be happy if you have to think.

14. An apt reference,
since Rev. Moon is still around and his money is a big part of the Republican/Religious Right alliance. I remember laughing at how silly they were back in the 70s and 80s. It's not so funny anymore.

4. If they were happy...
...they wouldn't be trying to force their narrow-minded little brand of "morality" on everyone else. They wouldn't try to destroy other people's happiness. Only unhappy people do that, because the only way they can make themselves feel better, is by making someone else feel worse.

11. LMAO!!
They are some of the LEAST happy people I know! In fact, most of them are downright fucking miserable. Very fearful and insecure, hateful. Damn, that's NOT happy, lady!

12. I believe it
When you have no doubts, and you think your soul is taken care of, and it doesn't matter what you do in this life (steal from the poor, kill those of different faiths, etc, etc) then of course it is easy to be happy. Remember, these people have accepted Jesus in their heart (as opposed to we garden variety Christians, who have not said, "I am born again" but who actually do for others) and as long as they have done that, they are covered in the big Guy department.
