Political Test - What are you politically?
A co-worker sent this on-line test to see how your opinions categorize your "political" position:
http://www.okcupid.com/politics

Well, no big surprize, I was categorized as a "Strong Democrat".

What I liked, though, was the explanation of a "Strong Democrat":

"You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness."

A "well developed sense of Right and Wrong" and "economic fairness". There, you RW hypocrits, take THAT for your supposed "Values" support! :toast:

I wonder how the average freeper would be described?

Any trolls here brave enough to take the test and then let us all know?

84. Yes, it is
I took the test and tried to answer it like a Republican would, rather than answering what I think. I came up with Strong Republican and it said "you exhibit a well-developed sense of right and wrong and believe in economic fairness". I ended up in Reagan and Bush and O'Reilly's quadrant. It is kinda interesting how they put Kerry in the center, rather than on the far left as so many people seem to think (both The Nation and George Will argued that he is a liberal, supposedly more liberal than Mondale if Will can be believed).

I only tried the first one, and like most "tests", some of the questions are pretty obvious. I'm just as far left as Ghandi, but more Libertarian. I have to try the other test, now!

I actually used to consider myself "moderate", because I thought "well, of course, this is how any average person would think". This was pre-Bush, btw. I was suprised to find out just how "Liberal" I was. I'm curious, I wonder how I would have scored under previous political climates?

You are a

Social Liberal

Economic Liberal
(8% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Socialist

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.

ON EDIT: I'm looking through this again, and trying to find why it thinks I'm so economically restrictive. I want to subsidize museums, I don't believe in any social Darwinist theory concerning homelessness, I don't feel guilty shopping at national chains, social justice is a good thing, I think people shouldn't have kids they can't pay for, I think the world would be better if there were fewer walmarts, most professional athletes are paid too much, I want better environmental laws, I don't think bigpharma should charge whatever they please, people don't have to starve to death, outsourcing of jobs does bother me, I am not strongly bothered that people lose some jobs because of environmental regs, I don't think that being poor is an advantage to getting into college (or anything else), I don't believe that selling a vote for cash is ok, I think going on strike is a right, small farmers should be subsidized if they need it, etc.....

I'm a lefty, no doubt, and I don't mind being called a socialist. It's just that I'm not one....

Alright, I fit in here! :D

I found this test to be very general, though. It didn't seem to have too many options between Democrat and Socialist. How about progressive or plain 'ol liberal options?

Social Liberal (76% permissive)
Economic Liberal (18% permissive)

Again, like others, I'm shocked that I'm so restrictive when it comes to economics. I thought I would of been more permissive.

Also, because I'm clueless, does anyone know who is to the top left of Hillary? Between Kerry and Hillary, I mean. Is that Bono next to him?

Oh, and I'm not trying to start anything, but anyone notice that Bin Laden lies in the lower ranks of the Republicans? ;)

I'm not a libertarian, for crying out loud! I'm generally a big government liberal. I just think government regulation should be limited by means testing. But when regulation is called for, the feds should appear, in Alexander Hamilton's words, "like an Hercules" before its opponents. It's just that the damned tests don't allow for my nuances. Stoopid humans.

Um, I mean, stoopid softwares!

Fine, fine. I'll take the test. I can't keep away. But I won't like the results, I'm telling ya upfront.

28. The Holocaust question was tricky
It said "A person has the right to claim the Holocaust never happened, if that's what he believes." I think such people are dangerous morons, but they absolutely have the right to say what they think. Trick questions will skew the results of tests like this. They need to be less cute and more direct in their questions. Even if life is more nuanced than a philosophical questionnaire, the questionnaire itself needs to be as simplified as possible.

62. If you think they have the right to say what they think, then the answer
is obviously AGREE or STRONGLY AGREE. It doesn't ask whether you think they're serving mankind.

These questions address whether you believe there should be legal repercussions, not whether you like it. I think that AIDS denialists are truly dangerous in a very real and immediate way, especially if people are persuaded to forego protection against the disease. However, what kind of a world would we live in, if people were fined or imprisoned simply for questioning widely accepted knowledge and theories?

Personally, I've made a hobby out of ripping Holocaust revisionists apart in debates, so I say let them make fools of themselves. Why lend credibility to their posturing as oppressed whistleblowers? The truth will always ruin them.

This test was not a good one. It forces you to answer some questions when you have no opinion either way.
Plus there is no answer to question #15. There should have been a choice of: "How would I know?"

I was almost on the cross hair on this test but I know if I took it multiple times I would pick different choices just because I was forced to pick something for every question.

I've never defined myself as a socialist, but that's fine, since I'm apparently one of the few not bothered by the labels "liberal," "leftie," "socialist," etc.; I am what I am.

94. Breakdown of Kerry voters
Most Kerry voters were in just one quadrant of the axis. Bush voters appeared to be in 3 quadrants. Why is it that Kerry voters seemed to be so similar while Bush was able to pull in voters from a wide variety of philosophies. That does not make much sense to me.

Seems OK to me.

I think, however, that the author of this quiz is as tilted to the right as the British authors of www.politicalcompass.org are tilted to the left. Members of the D.U. are generally firm leftists, but they're hardly "socialist".
