Michael Moore's acceptance speech on Critic's Choice Awards

Eric McCormack was the emcee of the Critic's Choice awards, and early in the evening said, "Two of the year's biggest films were, "The Passion of the Christ" and "Fahrenheit 9/11." In one film, a man is crucified for thinking he is God. The other film is about Jesus Christ." (Big laugh from audience, followed by applause)

Michael Moore appeared onstage a few minutes later to present the screenwriting award, and said,"some people think that there is no screenwriting, that the actors just make it up as they go along...in really good screenwriting your forget that the lines were written in advance and it really looks like the actors are just making it up as they go along...except in my film, you know that the main character has all his lines scripted...." (Audience laughs)...Referring to his own button-down appearance, Moore says, "Do you get the feeling that I've been in the witness protection program since November 2nd?" (Audience laughs again).

About an hour later, the award was presented for Best Documentary. When "F 9/11" was read in the list of nominees, it got extra applause that the other nominees didn't get (until "Super Size Me" which also got huge applause, maybe bigger than F9/11 got.) F 9/11 won, and a very serious-looking Michael Moore went up and accepted it and said:

"Thank you, thank you very much. First of all, congratulations to the other three nominees. (Control Room, Super Size Me, etc.) If you're watching this on the WB tonight, please check out the other nominees. This has been a great year for nonfiction films. While you're there pick up a little Kurosawa, Truffaut, Fellini, they are almost as good as what's on the WB. (laughs a little, audience doesn't really laugh)

"I want to thank my wife, Kathleen, who produced this film, my daughter Natalie, our incredible editors, composer, all the wonderful people who worked on this film. I want to thank Bob and Harvey Weinstein, after Disney refused it they did not back down. They will probably lose their company because of this. I apologize. I'll make more films for you, Bob and Harvey. Thank you for standing up for this film.

"Finally I want to thank all the people across the country, for the letters I have received since this film came out, the incredible emotions it has raised in people, especially service members and family, your letters are the most important. All of use are committed to bringing you home. Thank you very much for this award. Don't give up. Thank you very much."

(All in all Moore seemed much more serious at the Critic's Choice awards, compared to his speech accepting the People's Choice award just one day earlier where he seemed enthusiastic and buoyant. After the commercial they announced the gift bags that the stars would receive are going to be auctioned off on ebay and the money donated to tsunami relief.)

No criticism of MM is valid - his motives are pure, his entire behavior indicates a dedication to the greater good.

His message has been to serve the awakening of the sheep asleep. The money of his success went right back into the cause. He is a monumental hero, and I wish he would find a way to shed his physical weight so we could have him around longer. He is so very much needed.
