Some years ago, Gore Vidal said that we have only one party in America. |
|
He called it the Money Party with two wings, the Democratic and the Republican wings. The truth of this statement came home to me yesterday when we learnt that Tim Roemer was elected the DNC Chairman. His credentials include working on the 9/11 Commission and his proposal to move the party to be more hospitable to religious believers and abortion opponents. This is supposed to bring us to the "Centrist" position, a term that the DLC people are so enamored of.And this so called centrist position is supposed to miraculously vault us to victory in 2006 and 2008.
This is the same party that has ignored the following: 1.A thorough and impartial investigation of 9/11 not the whitewash Tim Roemer sat in on. 2. An investigation of all the false pretexts floated for the invasion of Iraq, including the Yellowcake memo, the Valerie Plame leak, the connection between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein and ,of course, the WMDs in Iraq. 3. An Iraq War Resoloution that most Democratic Senators voted for and did not bother to denounce after finding out they had been duped. Not one of those senators has called for impeachment. 4.John Kerry, while saying he now had reservations about voting for the War Resolution, has not condemned the basic premise of the war or its morality but the way it is conducted. 5.None of the major Democratic Senators including John Kerry, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, etc. have condemned the tortures at Abu Ghraib as immoral and illegal. In fact, I do not believe anyone has called these acts war crimes.
Their silence on these matters, not just in one news cycle but for months and even years makes them accomplices of these policies.I am waiting to see what type of position they take on Social Security. If they sell our elderly people down the river, they will have confirmed for me Gore Vidal's observation.

I'm sometimes behind the curve on news, being in Asia, but I hadn't heard that he was chosen. I thought he'd only just thrown his hat in. If he's chairman, color me dismayed.

2. I think I am mistaken. I just happened to note that Dean has thrown his |
|
hat in the ring, so that means Roemer is till not elected.

"Moneybags Party" it sounds like something he would say. Did you hear him when he called *Bush the "Yellow Rose of Texas" when he gave an interview to Amy Goodman? http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/04/1353259<snip> In other words, the happy look that occasionally you see on George W. Bush's Yellow Rose of Texas face, he knows something we don't know. He’s knows he could lose lose the whole election and win the votes because the machinery can be played around with.</snip>
