Why are Right wingers and fundamentalists so angry? I think it is
because they are afraid somewhere, someone is having fun. That cannot be allowed to happen ! So out goes music, sex, alcohol, anything that gives people joy and a sense of community. It has to be replaced by the humorless gloom and doom of the Falwells and Robertsons.

But it is fully acceptable to hate, go to war and kill. And, of course, to condemn the victims of natural disasters like the tsunami as sinners deserving of their fate.

If you look at how these folks were parented, it's all about control of someone else's will and the original sin of children, who are always trying to manipulate the parent from birth. They are taught to never EVAH question what their "superiors" tell them, whether it's the good reverend telling them that gays are EEEEVIL or the parent who says they deserved to be hit for spilling their milk on the kitchen floor.

For some interesting therory from a developmental psychology perspective, including some insights into Hitler's character and that of the ordinary Germans who helped him, get thee some Alice Miller.

7. they are fundamentally different from us
that's not "dehumanizing" them as some have accused me of doing, but they live in dark little fearful worlds and cannot under any circumstance take responsibility for choice in their lives. They love to align themselves with authority and power, and of course it doesn't REALLY matter if their god is good and benevolent, just so long as he's the most powerful one out there.

And, in my opinion, the god of the christian bible is kind of . . . petty and vindictive. Just like the fundies and neocons. Go figure.

17. Actually in the East :(( Most unemployed are in the east (former
East Germany), also they never let too many foreigners in and people just aren't used to them. Also the "German Democratic Republic" never discussed openly the concept of "everybody's guilt" during nazi-time, assuming "we are all socialists and socialists always opposed Hitler". So to a whole generation in East Germany neo-nazis are something new, something without a bad history. :(

Unemployment in some towns in East Germany is about 20 to 30 percent! And people who wonder how to pay the rent will forever follow the guys with the "simple answers".

19. I think you've hit the nail on the head there
poverty, hunger, and idleness drive many people either to religion or crime, and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

Look at the unemployment rate in the middle east and see how extremism is rampant among young men who see religion and particularly religion in politics as a means to ultimate power, excluding even women in their philosophy.

Somewhere along the way, faith has less and less or nothing to do with it.

(tschüss - I have to run for the day!)

23. "Faith has less or nothing to do with it" I agree. If everybody
were living comfortably we wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately the West has been doing his damndest to impoverish everybody else and we now reap the fruit of this... PLUS in my opinion we have a new "the Jews have poisoned the wells": "The Arabs have caused 9/11!"

Just read a harmless piece about an islam fashion show in Germany. They interviewed a girl in modern clothes who had come with a lot of traditionally clad girls. When interviewed she didn't say: "I don't care about this headscarf bull". She said: "I'm just not ready for this yet."

And I could understand her. If I belonged to a people/religious community who was ridiculed and called terrorists whatever they did or didn't do - I guess I would start wearing that damn head scarf too. With pride.

It's US that's the problem.

I wish you a good day :)

50. You hit the nail on the head!
I've been arguing with a conservative religious fundie acquaintance of mine over the best policy for the country. Most discussions end with me saying, "It's not that black and white."

Recently she replied to me, "Isn't it frightening for you, living in a world with no absolutes?"

Notice I never said there were NO absolutes, but that's what she heard (probably because for her EVERYTHING is an absolute). And she finds uncertainty scary. THAT is what seperates us from conservatives, folks. They are so scared shitless of uncertainty that they will support anyone, anything or any doctrine - religious or political - that shows certainty, no matter how WRONG or IMMORAL is may be in actuality. That's how you get people who condemn abortion because they are "pro life" yet support an unjustified, unnecessary war that's killed over 1300 American troops and countless Iraqis.

As for me, uncertainty doesn't scare me. People who are always certain scare the crap out of me, though.

20. It's their fundamental beliefs in God
Their God hates them, and everyone else. He sends them to hell for being Gay, believing in any other religion, masterbation, etc. He can't handle anyone going to Heaven that deviates from their specific rules. All other religions are sinning against him and can't make it into heaven - that includes poor people in 3rd nations that have never heard of Christ. They're into God punnishment and not happiness. If there is Happiness in God - it's from direct obedience to the stern absentee landlord.

Luckily many Christians have a God that loves everyone, doesn't care if you masterbate, doesn't care if you're gay, doesn't need you to be Christian to get to heaven, etc. They however have a whole different set of fundamental values. Primarily - their god loves them. It's too liberal for the fundamentals to handle.

RRR's want everyone around them to behave in a manner pleasing to them and they'll do anything to make it that way. They are unwilling to think "outside the box" so they drag stuff into the box that doesn't belong (often wrecking the box in the process) (OK, is this analogy dead yet?)

I liberal will discover "my son is gay" and figure out how to make that work.

A RRR will find out "my son is gay" and attempt to modify the son despite all evidence that it won't work.

(on edit, I suppose I should actually answer the question)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work which he finds frustrating, and the situation gets more complicated (RRR's hate complexity) which he finds frustrating and having completely ignored Christ's message of love, he has nothing left but hate and anger.

30. you have two different groups there
Most of the fundamentalists and Republicans that I know are not angry. Many of them are stern, but not really that angry. The shouting heads on TV are trying to tap into America's general angriness, that we are working too hard at jobs we hate and barely getting by. Even those who are doing well want more and want it quicker.
In fact, I do not even think there is a talking head who is as angry as I am. If I were to discuss the BFEE it would be hard not to slip into profanity. People like Michael Moore and Ted Rall and the Clintons have the ability to make them angry by suceeding and by spreading a non-conservative message (perhaps less so with the Clintons). Still people who work hard, who get victimize in crime, pushed around by their bosses (or treated rudely by customers), etc. are naturally angry and they are trying to tap into this. Also, a bad mood is very contagious.

32. TAKE THIS TEST and find out how being Right Wing is a Personality Trait!
The Myers-Briggs theory that says there are 16 distinct personalities based on the possible combinations of these sets of traits...

Introvert vs. Extrovert

Intuitive vs. Sensor

Thinker vs. Feeler

Judger vs. Perseiver

Here is the LINK to the test, http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

When you are done you will discover which of the 16 personalities you are.

I believe that the majority of Democrats are NOT T's or J's.
We tend to believe that being merciful is more important than being punitive.

TAKE THE TEST!! REPORT YOUR SCORES!!
I'll bet we have a very high number of NF's IDEALISTS at DU
(DU Types would be ENFP, INFP, ENFJ, INTP, INFJ...)

Anyway, 25% of the world's population is made up of "TJ" types, which, I believe makes up the majority of fundamentalist Christians.

35. Neat Test.
I'm "INTJ", and this page calls it the "Mastermind".

"The Portrait of the Mastermind Rational (iNTj)

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition, it is the contingency planning or entailment organizing role that reaches the highest development in Masterminds. Entailing or contingency planning is not an informative activity, rather it is a directive one in which the planner tells others what to do and in what order to do it. As the organizing capabilities the Masterminds increase so does their inclination to take charge of whatever is going on.

It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other Rationals, while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers."

Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind's well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined. In their drive for efficient action, Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy."

---------------------------------------------

For the most part, that's accurate. I'm pretty damn aggressive.

From my experience, INTJ's also have the hardest time choosing a mate because they tend to have VERY high standards.

Well, so far you have DISPROVEN MY THEORY which is a VERY INTJ kind of thing to do!! LOL

Anyway, it says a lot about John Kerry if an INTJ picked him. May I ask if Kerry was your first choice?

38. I also ended up INTJ
but just barely a thinker and only 33% judging. One of the famous INTJs was Donald Rumsfeld, but another one was Thomas Jefferson.
Kerry was not my first choice in the primaries and I was ABB in the general.
My first choice would be Kucinich, but pragmatically, that was impossible. I sure thought this hit the nail on the head:
"Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations.

This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. :-) This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', paralleling that of many Fs -- only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness."
"Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do, sometimes won't know how to take him. He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's alright."

47. I do not understand the question
Clearly Kerry had more integrity, decency, intelligence, and compassion in one of his nose hairs than Bush has in his whole body. There has not been a question for me since 1999 that Bush is a liar and a person whose Presidency would be bad for the country and the world. It has been worse than I imagined, even though I wrote in Oct 2000 that "quite frankly, a Bush Presidency scares me".
As far as the personality types on DU I do not know enough about either DUers or the personality types to hazard a guess. I would guess that if Donald Rumsfeld, Thomas Jefferson and I have the same personality type that the difference between us is based on something other than personality type.

51. I still think a waffler is far, far better than someone
who makes a wrong choice and refuses to admit it, or learn from it, much less fix things. In fact one of Kerry's big mistakes, IMO, is when he said he would have voted for the war anyway. He had a perfect opportunity to point out the difference between October, when he voted, and February, when I protested the push to war, and March when Bush started the war. The inspectors had been working for sixty days by then and the October vote is what got them in.
The perfect example of someone expecting another person to make sense is in Al Franken's book "Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat idiot" when Al tries and tries to explain his joke to Newt Gingrich, but Newt refused to understand. I would expect any Democrat to make more sense than that. Maybe it was just Newt's crowd of sycophants which made him so unreasonable. See, I even expect Newt to make sense.

55. you're a very political creature!
I should have mentioned that type since my political junkie college boyfriend was an INTP. lol :)

Did you read more about INTP's? They are very much the "Thinkers" of the types.

Here's a good link for more info.
http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html

Here's a quote from the link:

"For here is the central goal of the INTP: to understand and seek truth."

Sometimes i think that they must have a constant "if it feels good, it must be bad" saying playing constantly in their mind......

but then again, maybe they're just evil... :) (I don't remember them ever saying chocolate is bad)

And those are, I think, the root of the whole shebang.
