“Who will speak up against George W. Bush and his Stalinist policies?”
“Oddly, so far it's only been Justice Antonin Scalia..”

“How ironic that Justice Scalia was willing to stand up to George W. Bush and Alberto Gonzales, but most of the Senate Democrats won't.”

1. Excellent article.

The Kruschev anecdote was particularly apt.

2. My law school son loves Scalia
not because he agrees with him very much but because he has opinions that are intellectually challenging and interesting, well thought out and seriously thought provoking. My son admits to actually enjoying reading Scalia. Doesn't agree with him but appreciates his intellect.

Now when I mention Clarence Thomas, the kid goes nuts. Thomas makes it up as he goes along. No thought to precedent, just what he thinks, law be damned.

4. You mean the "intellect" that allows him to steal the 2000 election?
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 11:27 PM by leesa
Or is it the "intellect" that allows him to accept favors from Dick Cheney in exchange for keeping the public energy documents secret?? So, your son likes flimsy, bogus rationalizations?? Scalia has no intellectual prowess.

5. Scalia's writings include

much more than just the 2000 election or the energy documents.

By dismissing those who we disagree with as having "no intellectual prowess" is in itself intellectually lazy. Fall into that trap and you are lost. We on the left had better stop minimalizing those we oppose as somehow intellectually inferior. Scalia is not an intellectual lightweight. One can disagree with him on points of law but to dismiss his intelligence is foolhardy.

3. King George Bush the second{KGB II}
Royalty such as bush eventually turns on the commoners.
Bush is related to Charles II who was son of Charles I.
Charles I advocated "divine rights of kings" same as the unelected bush. This is 3 different references regarding bush blue bloods.

1.]"His Royal Highness, King Dubya

Burke's publishing director, Harold Brooks-Baker says Bush's royal connections are startling. " is closely related to every European Monarch both on and off the throne," says Brooks-Baker. Some of the governor's royal kin include Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother, Duchess Sarah "Fergy" Ferguson and even the late Princess Diana. His most prominent ancestor may be England's King Charles II, who shared the governor's vision of a strong military. Going back nearly 1000 years, Brooks-Baker points out both the Bush and Pierce families were high society. "Not one member of his family was working class, middle class, or even middle, middle class," he notes. "

2.]"Back in 1999, he began studying the family history of George W. Bush, who, on his father's side, can claim kinship with Britain's Queen Elizabeth, as well as with Kings Henry III and Charles II of England — and to the Premyslid dynasty of Bohemia.

3.]http://asis.com/~stag/uspres.html
Charles II, second son of Charles I and Henrietta Marie of France, was born in 1630. He spent his teenage years fighting Parliament's Roundhead forces until his father's execution in 1649, when he escaped to France."
thanx for question.sorry for long post
