Miracle!! MICHAEL PARENTI on w/ Brian Lamb on Booknotes !!!!!
A must-see this week is - BOOKNOTES! Believe it or not, Brian Lamb has Michael Parenti as his guest for one hour. He mentioned that he has received tons of mail over the years saying, "You never have on - Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, or Michael Parenti! Why not?" Miracle! Parenti told him exactly why those three are never on - corporate media and the advertisers that support them.

This came on at 8:00 PM EST Sunday Night - I know it will repeat, but not sure when - or you can see the whole thing at:
http://www.booknotes.org/home/index.asp

You can watch it or read the transcript. Best Booknotes ever! A little TRUTH being spoken tonight.

3. That real is something......Christian is GOOD on that issue
I didn't realize how fast the prisons were being privatized and what a HUGE industry jailing people has become until I heard Christian in Lawrence.

His dad wrote the greatest government text ever - DEMOCRACY FOR THE FEW. His other sixteen books are damn good too.

for one of their marathon Sunday interviews. It was about 4 hours long. I saw it maybe 6 months ago.

10. P.S. Howard Zinn was also on...
one of the 4 hour interviews. He was terrific. That was probably almost a year ago. So, they really should have him on again. Maybe when the liberal radio network comes about we'll have a rich source of ideas to hear. I can hardly wait.

Meantime, I'm looking forward to C-Span maybe having the call in segment after *'s speech. They're showing * right now.

I'm not sure - didn't see it but I think he was talking about CNN and the rest. When was the last time Chomsky was on CNN?

13. No - about half way into the show...
Brian Lamb said he's always getting letters asking why they (Chomsky, Zinn and Parenti) are never on his show (meaning Booknotes).......

They later talked about the lockout of the mainstream media. Parenti told it just like it is.

when I would get through to him, I often mentioned the lack of Parenti and the abundance of imbalance. Im fairly shocked this was his first appearance. The sky falling?

15. True, but Chomsky, Parenti, Zinn rarely get on television,

in comparison to PNACers like Kristol, Perle, Wolfowitz and other neocons, cons, and assorted Republicans and RWers.

Oh, how I miss the Fairness Doctrine!

16. Anyone who wants to know how US society works should read Parenti.
He is a fantastically lucid & powerful writer; nobody makes the points better, and nobody has a broader or more penetrating perspective. I love Zinn, too, & have the greatest respect for Chomsky (though Chomsky's writing style can be very dry).

But Parenti is the best of them, as a writer (& as a speaker, too. He is one hell of a fiery orator. He can get the crowd screaming & the pulse pounding -- I've seen it many times already). No one who reads his work (and I've read all of it) can ever look at our society the same way again.

17. I agree
Like you, I have a lot of respect for Chomsky, but his writing style is not very friendly for quick reading. Parenti writes so clearly that it's impossible to not see where he's coming from.

Favorite book by Parenti: "Land Of The Idols" It didn't get a lot of attention (even for Parenti) but it was one of his best!

22. I sent him an email...
asking how he felt about Wesley Clark. Meantime, I found an esssay about the breaking up of Yugoslavia published on his web site. Parenti replied this morning asserting that he felt Clark is a war criminal. I'd like to see him interviewed on each of his books.

During the Booknotes interview last night, he said that he didn't make the talk show rounds because it's all people yelling at each other (paraphrase). He's right. It really is a desperate venue, imo. That's why I like C-Span and NPR. I hope that the new liberal radio network can allow for a calmer more deiberate pace. But I'm not optimisitc.

25. Parenti is the least accurate left wing writer I have ever read
His book 'Against Epire' is so filled with historical error, distortions, wilful blindness, communist apologia and general inaccuracy to make it a complete joke to anyone more concerned with accuracy and real history against ideology.

The book is at best laughable. At worst, some people do not see the terrible reasearch and historical errors.

35. To tkmorris & monkeyboy --
You're both asking about whether or not to cancel your orders, because of Zuni's ignorant remarks above.

You can go to:

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Authors/Authors_page.html

and click the "Michael Parenti page" link to see some online excerpts of Parenti's writing. He's listed there right about 4 or so from the top, under Chomsky & Zinn. That might give you a basis on which to make up your own mind.

That was the biggest bunch of crap I've read here in a LONG time. I mean, really, give me a break! I have read all of his books -- ALL of them. I am well-educated and can spot inaccuracies with the best of them - Parenti's books are NOT as you described.

Shame.

36. So, Zuni - what a surprise that you haven't managed to support your
comments about Parenti!

I mean, I was really looking forward to seeing the type of arguments someone as knowledgeable as yourself might come up with. You know, some specifics, & some reasoning, all wrapped up in a nice cogent paragraph or two. The 3 or 4 sentences you wrote above seemed so promising -- only about 8 spelling & grammatical errors, a clumsy & barely literate style, as well as smear-style accusations that you apparently have no basis for.

Let me ask you again - Please try to substantiate your smearing of this author. I very much look forward to the entertainment.

Best Regards, :loveya:
