Bush volunteered for Vietnam? |
|
I woke up this morning and the TV was playing Foxnews. They were bashing Rather and I swear to God this yahoo said that the independent report revealed that Bush had actually volunteered to go to Vietnam when he was in the Guard.

1. Those records are so compromised, they could probably put it in. |

Ridiculous, but these guys are great at re-writing history. Look what they did to/for Reagan.

Bush was actually IN vietnam at the time he was supposed to be reporting to duty for air national guard. He was so moved by the plight of the vietnamese people that he went there personally heal the sick and wounded and dying and hand out food and set up orphanages.
It's just those damn evil liberals who intentionally lost all his paperwork so they could try to claim that he was AWOL.

8. In Bizarro World, sure. |
|
In Bizarro World, Bush is a self-made man, a Democrat who actually has a clue what's good for his people. Bizarro Bush was a decorated Vietnam veteran after a tour of about 4 years. He had an IQ of 150 and graduated Yale summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. He entered politics on the left of the spectrum, becoming a crusader for the working man. He was elected President in 2000 with 60% of the popular vote.
Sounds good doesn't it?

You forgot the purple hearts he earned. The swift boat people can confirm this, I'm sure. A great accomplishment considering his cocaine usage. Also, as some voter in NY said, "He has dirt under his fingernails". The old Soviet revisionists and Orwell's Ministry of Truth had nothing on these guys for flushing things down the memory hole.

As you may remember, in his personnel file, released by the WH, he specifically said no to overseas duty. In addition, in his biography, he made the statement that he wanted to avoid Viet Nam, and didn't want to injure himself so as to avoid service there. Thus, he "joined" the Guard. Quite plainly, he is a feckless shirker.

13. This is from last year, from a retired Colonel Ed Morrisey |
|
Who claimed to know a lot about shrub's record: "The Air Force, in their ultimate wisdom, assembled a group of 102's and took them to Southeast Asia. Bush volunteered to go. But he needed to have 500 hours, but he only had just over 300 hours so he wasn't eligible to go,”
Is it true? Who knows?

Do you have another source for this story? Any background on the Colonel?

with the infamous "Mission Accomplished" banner (which my wingnut brother in law insisted was handmade by the sailors and their idea, not Karl Rove's... and not professionally produced by the White House)Faux referred to Bush's days "as a Viet Nam fighter pilot". Tabloid News. By the way, the White House did produce the banner. It was not the work of exuberant sailors. But, then, my brother in law is wrong more often than he is right. He listens to Rush.

He supposedly brought up the subject. No official request. His CO said no, he wouldn't recommend him for combat duty. Case closed.
He "wanted" to go to combat but his CO thought he was insufficiently capable. Now he's the CinC. Go figure. The Professor

28. I heard this before... |
|
On the morning of 2/23/04, I was on my way to work and had NPR on the radio. Junior's campaign manager (can't remember the name or exact title) stated very clearly that Junior had volunteered to go to VietNam, but wasn't accepted. I almost wrecked my car!
I'm not sure what your memories are of that era, but I have a pretty clear recollection that as long as you were physically and/or mentally capable, they weren't turning down any volunteers.
